I'm a big fan of these two:

What kind of amp are they going in?

not goin in an amp at all. gunna plop one in my tube eq. is a little thin for my taste sometimes....hoping a tube roll will be the solution. also hoping the same principles apply to other pieces of gear other than amps when it comes to tubes. thanks 7sharp9 :)

anybody ever had an NOS RCA? was lookin at those at work the other day.

I seem to go against all tube trends as I like Sovtek tubes in my twin reverb. They just make it sound big and powerful.

I would put in a good word for TungSol but I've only heard it in my amp... besides it's more mid-range centric I feel :/

FWIW I have a 12AT7 (lower gain, compatible with 12AX7) RCA tube in my Vintage Tube Monster VT999. Really like it.

I noticed you can find a variety of tubes on ebay for $1-3 or so apiece. I'd sooner try my luck with some of them instead of a single $20 tube. Luckily I have a buddy w/a small collection of old and NOS tubes I could try out. :)

NOS are great but expensive and some times difficult to find.
The best new 12AX7/ECC83s I have found are, for EL84/brit amps JJ’s are great, for more of an old Fender tone the TAD 7025 (industrial version) are fantastic.
