I'm seriously at my wits end here.

(I don't have to try, I just make music and it comes out weird naturally.)
Philly actually has a decent music scene, I just haven't really paid that much attention to it.

Well ya know, like combo weird. Not just the solo fart noises I've been tootin' out myself.Chankgeez wrote:(I don't have to try, I just make music and it comes out weird naturally.)

I never see a flier for a show in Philly I care to go to. The last one was the Lord Snow show a few weeks ago, but other than that pretty snores. I also try to avoid going into Philly if possible because holy hell the entire place sucks.

Well, that's another story entirely.Strange Tales wrote: I also try to avoid going into Philly if possible because holy hell the entire place sucks.
So, just what sort of weird combo music just outside of Philly are you looking for?

I've given up on my dream of mid-tempo groove-based screamo/hardcore, and at this point I'm not even sure if I want anything to do with vocals (fuck I am so bad at singing and playing at the same time).
At this point I wouldn't just mind a pile of instrumental hardcore + math rock with drones and ambient/noise parts. Basically off-kilter, signature changes, tempo changes out of the wazoo. Starts, stops. Ya know.

You may eventually find people to play with where you're looking to play with them, but you'll have a better chance where there are more people and a larger pool of musicians with similar interests.

Yea, the similar interest thing is a boner. All I've found so far:
80s hardcore
Metal
Cover bands
Swoopy hair metalcore
Makes me regret needing a job to support being alive. Wish I still lived in DC.

I work overnights 6 days a week and I am pretty much antisocial and a hermit...
But y'know someday I suppose...
I KNOW lots of weird stuff happens in the city, but I don't think the scene is really tight.
At least I don't know where everyone congregates online if they do congregate.

Screamo is dead, bro!
Dudes that booked/played that lord snow show are gonna be your best bet into the scene I think you want to be in. All the metalcore/swoopy hair stuff is a whole other world that I didnt know even existed in philly. They used to have a massive list of all the upcoming philly diy shows, not sure if its been updated in awhile though.
Hmu, might be able to point you in the right direction.
