Looper recommendations

Post by Adelbatross »

I've been on an off with using loopers but I'm keen to really start using one more. I currently have the Ditto which is ok and good as an intro looper, but I find the one switch has its drawbacks. I want something that makes it easier to run multiple loops and that can switch off loops quick and easy. Mainly something that if I got good enough using could be put into a live setting, which can be tricky with a one switch looper. So thinking about going to:

Boss RC30
Line 6 DL4
Ditto X2

I've seen heaps of boards that have the Timeline, but realistically I don't need all that functionality, especially considering the cost and the real estate it would take up on my board. Between the El Capistan and Black Fountain I get what I need delay wise, but then again when can you ever have too many delays right? Same thing with the Eventide stuff.

I'm leaning towards the RC30. There's one here that's a good price and seems to have what I need - 2 switches for multiple loops, plus outs for mic, drums, and aux. Any feedback on the RC30? Kind of hard to beat the DL4 I suppose, seen it in action just no good deals that I've found for it at the moment.

If you have an El maybe get a Flashback to use for delay and the Cap to loop or the other way around... :thumb:

Glad this thread popped up, I've been wanting to try a looper recently. I'll be watching this thread. From the shadows :excellent:

If you want to do multiple loops why not the Boomerang Phrase Sampler? Honestly that seems like the best looper on the market for heavy duty, multiple loop needs.

I just picked up a cheap DL4 and man oh man, if line 6 ever got anything correct, it was this sucker.

RC30. loop FX are rad and being able to load your loops into your computer via usb is so awesome. you can also drop .wavs into it and use it as a sampler
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

For "live looping" the DL4 and the Timefactor are hard to beat IMO.

The DL4 has been pretty much the only constant on my board. The Alter Ego v.2 has looping capabilities, but honestly it's too much of a pain in the ass.

I'll confess I haven't tried very many loopers, as my only previous experience with looping was using a TC Flashback, which was quite limited, but I got an RC30 and I love it. Pretty much use it all the time. The two independent tracks are really nice. I think the main thing is whether or not you care for Boss footswitches. Personally, I find them much easier to hit than the regular tiny switches, but some people reaaaalllly don't like 'em.

Infinity Looper (Pigtronix) is really powerful. I don't have one anymore but it's really solid. Lots of options and functionality.

Kinda depends where your priorities lie impo...

DL4: Awesome bang for the buck, but overkill if you don't need another full blown delay that takes up a lot of board space. The looper is rad, and easy to use and all that...But you can't store/save loops or hook the pedal up to your computer or anything.

I'm personally gassing fot a ditto x2, cause it's not as limited as the regular ditto, and it's supposedly easier to use than the boss rc-3.

Can the RC-30 do half/double speed and backward loops though? If so: Want

The RC-30 does not do reverse loops which is incredibly disappointing to me and the only reason I'm still using a Ditto X2.
