Dandolin's Bottomless Gear Question Bar

Post by Dandolin »

So many stupid, pesky gear questions; I'm gonna put a few in here rather than proliferate frog-mold-spore threadz that spark an amphibian apocalypse.

First--can anyone recommend a decent (compact) (cheep) midi sound module that does a variety of cheezy combo organ sounds? Kind of like a Yamaha Reface YC without the keyb and the flat-crazy pricing? Not as interested in the fat, grindy Hammond tones (although I might occasionally want to use one ironically); the cheeziar the sleeziar the bettar.

Second--what do people think of the Jomox T Resonator? It's knob array is whispering to me at night, taunting me with emulated knob tweezin' succubi. Is it as mind-blowing pitch-black-lake-below-Mordor deep as it seems? I want something that will suck my consciousness out of this shit reality and buff my index finger and thumb to Titan proportions with all the compulsitweaking. Maybe the answer is just that obvious? Also, can it be tweaked into self-generating synthdom?

Third--What about the EHX Black Finger and Tube Zipper? Are these fat and lofi sounding, easily adjustable to inexplicably crappy sounding levels in time-honored EHX tradition? Will they serve to make my baritone/bass VI sound flubby and unnatural to the extent that they seem like crude simulations devised by a bored superior intelligence that didn't have the interest or milliseconds necessary to design something more faithful to the original? This one is crucial--I need it to please my robot overlords enough to distract them while my alien lover infects their operating system with a rad trojan.

Fourth--At what point, if ever, does the construct of bullshit collapse under the relentless totality of virtual "fact" circulating in this etheric realm (outside the precincts of ILF, of course)? Please relate your answer licitly to gear and the purchase thereof.

No, really.

Thankee!

All I know is that the T Resonator is a speaker blower. I remember UG saying that it could get louder than the LAL CP. And I came close to blowing up my entire amp with my CP when I first started playing with it. So, tweak carefully. :excellent:

Oh I plan to use cascading bullshit compressors into an emulated high pass filter wired to a vibration sensitive trigger mechanism and a block of gelignite. What could go wrong?

 Seriously. Point well taken.

Maybe something like an Alesis NanoSynth?

Are you looking specifically for hardware? I'm sure there are a ton of bad combo organ VSTs floating around!

How cheap we talking?

I'd grab a Roland JV-1080 if I wanted an outboard module.

2-fiddy all day on EBay cheep? That sounds cheep enough. In fact, let's say that's the top end of my range. Combo organ lurve? Off to do more research.

1: Yamaha FB-01...(you can borrow mine if you want with the other stuff...gotta fish it out of the garage and see if it powers on still). The go for like 65 (I got mine for 35 a long long time ago)....maybe a TG33 or something.
2: :idk:
3: :idk: Been looking at Robotalks though...and I got a compressor today (a 1970s Jen Dynamic Sustainer...can't really tell that it does anything other than quiet the signal and eq stuff)
4: Thinking about it.

Here are many demo patches, including organ:

4:08 sends you straight to organ-time. Much cheese to be hand (and you can do some fairly deep editing), they're the not so secret weapons of a couple friends who do movie and tv work.

TWSS

Can't listen right now, but I think this should be a stock answer to stupid gear questions: "Guys, remember to Cluster Flux it!"

If I remember correctly, dude genius in that first vid cv'd or midi'd his oscillating CF into a synth? I should try that with my Tube EQ and then not sell it....

OKso, the VOX Snake Charmer sounds like syrupy bwappy unnatural pumpsuckwheeze shit in the nicest possible way, but seems to be hen's-teeth class rare. Can the Black Finger enter into such realms? What the hell is up with the "Black Finger" anyway? Mike Matthews wanted to name a pedal for a Crusader-borne plague so virulent that it lightning-burned it's way through any population it touched thus eradicating it's candidacy for the Guinness Book of Horrible Malthusian Adjustments and into the Big Booke of Child Bed-Wetting Inducement Tales and Crypto-Epidemiological Oddities?

how cheap? I think you should hang a sign over the bar if you order a "drink" without any more info, you get a matshot.
If you order "cheap" without any more info you get Ratshack products

Imma not sure if that's what you are going for or not? when you say cheap do you want it sounding like a toy?
