Dime's tones were usually deliberately annoying.
I remember reading an interview where he said his old man (a producer) heard Vulgar for the first time and said something to the effect of, "people are going to think something is wrong with the record", at which Dime remarked he knew he was "right".

Also lulz at Phil and his Smiths love.
Totally right about the Morrissey worship.

Is Casecandy Philip Anselmo?!?

I can confirm that I am not.

This thread got so interesting to me! D.o.S., that's a great article. Very interesting. I love those sorts of "Why do [demographic] like [thing]" lines of reasoning. Why do I like Brand New? I can tell you for a fact Jesse Lacey is a dick, and he sings about being a dick. His band became famous in large part due to a feud with another band wherein he stole that band's guitarist's girlfriend. Now, I don't hang around with people who are dicks. I like to think I'm not a dick. But, much like Brandon Boyd of Incubus turns being an art-school douchebro into poetry, Jesse Lacey paints a compelling picture of being a dick. To quote the philosopher Selena Gomez, "The heart wants what the heart wants."

It is very true that Morrissey is racist as fuck. He comes to this by way of animal rights. Animal rights is a great movement. I'm not a vegan or even vegetarian, but I do advocate for a lot of causes (destruction of the rainforest, poaching, whales in captivity, etc.) and donate to animal rights organizations like Oceana, The Orangutang Project, Dogwood Initiative, etc. I see a lot of racism with like-minded folk; they blame all Japanese people for whaling and overfishing; the blame all Chinese people for their country's horrific animal rights violations, like the Yulin dog meat festival, or their sketchy fur industry; they think Native Americans are evil for their traditional hunts, etc., etc.

What they don't realize is, there's a difference between Chinese industry/government and China/Chinese culture/the Chinese people. So you get Moz saying things like this:
Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies... If anyone has seen the horrific and unwatchable footage of the Chinese cat and dog trade — animals skinned alive — then they could not possibly argue in favour of China as a caring nation. There are no animal protection laws in China and this results in the worst animal abuse and cruelty on the planet. It is indefensible."
I agree, it is indefensible. It is also protested by the vast majority of informed Chinese citizens. Not to mention that the UK and US don't exactly have great animal rights track records. What else is indefensible is racism in the animal rights movement. A truly intersectional advocate for animal rights would also take into account the experience of the average person living in a communist country, as well as the long legacy of imperialism in China in particular...

That's my take on it. I love The Smiths in spite of Moz's attitudes.

Pantera's song is called "CemeTERY Gates."

The Smith's song is called "CemeTRY Gates."

As noted on the pretty decent Genius.com breakdown,
The famous misspelling of “cemetry” in the title is just a typical Moz mistake.
The funny thing is, I'd been unaware that Pantera had a song called that.

Something very weird and gone-full-circle happened today LOL

The thing is, you can get all that from Napalm Death, and they have never sucked, or were ever boring.

While I am a ND fan, The Smiths never sucked, and were never boring, throughout their career. It was short and sweet. I hope they never reunite.

It's like I said to D.o.S., go ahead and not like them. Ignoring the fact that they were influential is just plum crazy! :)*

I'm going to tentatively say that this is true.

I suppose Juggalos count as an incredibly insular "scene," so I will give them one scene. That's what they've influenced.

Vs. The Smiths...
Critics have called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s. Q magazine's Simon Goddard argued in 2007 that The Smiths were "the one truly vital voice of the '80s", "the most influential British guitar group of the decade" and the "first indie outsiders to achieve mainstream success on their own terms". The NME named the Smiths the "most influential artist ever" in a 2002 poll, even topping the Beatles... [Note: This was a reader's poll, not an editorial.]

The Smiths had several singles reach the UK top twenty and all four of their studio albums reached the UK top five, including one which topped the charts...

The band's focus on a guitar, bass, and drum sound, and their fusion of 1960s rock and post-punk, were a repudiation of synthesizer-based contemporary dance-pop – the style popular in the early 1980s. Marr's guitar-playing on his Rickenbacker often had a jangly sound... [influencing] later Manchester bands, including The Stone Roses and Oasis.
No contest, Mud :p
