Re: Jaguar dilemma
The Warmoth neck will often need some levelling/final tweaking. They're not bolt on and go.
That said, if I'd seen this thread earlier, I'd have told you to get a Classic Player Jag HH. Locking button (or you swap the trem on *any* of the ones that don't if it's essential to you), decent buckers, coil blend.
The thing on the MIMs is that you buy the higher-end ones. Comparing the low-end stuff (especially the blacktops that cost less than the Standards) to the high-end is like comparing a Squier Bullet to the Mascis Jazzmaster. It's a huge, huge difference. On import stuff, you really do get more for the $$ once you leave the bottom of the price point.
For tuning stability as well, I'd have recommended the"Moved slightly forward" vibrato on the CP/Mascis/50th anniversary Jag/etc. It makes a heck of a difference - the CP I have is solid enough tuning-wise to function well as a guitar synth platform, which is far far more bitchy than normal guitar about that.
The Warmoth neck though will be fine though in terms of quality - they don't make junk. I haven't built a parts guitar in over 15 years, as I found what I wanted or had a tech do it for me (when I was working two jobs and time was > money for me, no way was I spending my limited time for music not playing instead). Big thing on any build is proper setup - be prepared to shim neck, etc, just like the factory would. And be slow and patient putting it together. Don't rush it.

Re: Jaguar dilemma
well I know this isn't the cheapest route, but I'm getting pretty much exactly what I want. Thanks for the tips and keep them coming. I will update this thread with my progress.

So I want a Jaguar with a PAF neck and a Super Distortion bridge. I also want tuning stability and either a hard-tail or a way to lock off the trem.
So basically you don't want a jaguar.

Re: Jaguar dilemma
To each their own but,
I would have figured that a Les Paul or an SG style guitar would have been cheaper faster and less polarizing, unless you have a reason to dislike those body styles.SPACERITUAL wrote:Exclaimed wrote:ok that is fucked up

Re: Jaguar dilemma
Agreed, or just a Classic Player HH and gone from there.
I love mine as it was, and it was a whopping $425 a few years ago on the GC used site.

Re: Jaguar dilemma
haters gonna hate.
I knew a bling'ed-out offset would irk some folks. Sorry I know this isn't the cheapest way, but ultimately I'm going to learn something and have some pride in building my own.
Warmoth did a fantastic job on the body. Lots of credit to them.

Re: Jaguar dilemma
FWIW, I don't see anything to be hating on here! Nothing wrong with building something to your own specs/requirements/wants even if it does stray from the "standard". No harm in spending a bit more for a project guitar either. The build is half the fun and you end up with something you can take pride in at the end. Interested to see how this one turns out!tuj wrote:haters gonna hate.I knew a bling'ed-out offset would irk some folks. Re: Jaguar dilemma
I usually don't like that kind of figured top but it looks so out of place on the Jag that I love it. It looks like it's underwater.
It's probably great for... surf guitar.
Too bad it doesn't have a matching headstock.
