Actually, there's a bike shop which specializes in cargo bikes that recently moved a street over from me. So, I'm picking up knowledge by osmosis.
I might need to get a new bike soon. I'll hopefully be moving into a new apartment shortly and my daily rider currently weighs a ton. Don't even wanna think about doing stairs with it. When I lived in my last place (a four floor walk up), I had a folder. I liked the small wheels, but not the folding aspect of it. Was thinking about getting a mini velo, but that's not really what I want either. Maybe BMX?
Nice to hear about your trail ride, Jero. Fun is always good.

Sorry, don't know how to post a pic without a lot more clicking and saving of images. It's a localish company to me. Really the only problem I have is that it's a lot of money. That could turn into a pretty sweet amp... but the bike is way more practical.

So, an Xtracycle style bike, eh? A friend of mine has a Surly Big Dummy which I've riden. Are you gonna be hauling a lot of stuff? What kind of stuff? Bikes like that are big and heavy (and generally, as you've said, expensive). IMO the gearing is usually pretty awkward too. I'd steer clear of it unless it's something you abolutely need. If you can somehow carry all the stuff you need on a regular bike (racks, panniers, huge messenger bag, trailer, etc.), I'd stick with that. Yeah, if you have the spare cash and can get one cheap enough, go for it. I think they're neat. They've got a pretty specific application though.

That's exactly what I was wondering. It will mostly be groceries, errands, and a kid. I'd like to ditch the car except for anything outside of our town or hauling cabinets. I can potentially do that with just a normal bike with panniers and stuff

If I needed something to haul items with, I'd get a bike trailer that can be attached and removed. You can find one for cheap on craigslist or whatever.
