Don't knock Moz. The Smiths were incredible and his early solo stuff was pretty good

Total douchebag; amazing lyricist :idk:
if they had just got someone else to sing those lyrics...

I was always more of a Johnny Marr fan, at any rate.
Anybody else always reminded of the marilyn manson book where he has a list of things that make you gay that almost exclusively centers around listening to morissey?
 Yes. That was quite amusing.
I think Michael Stipe featured heavily in that list as well.

No beef. I can now get more into/out of it than I could at the time, but it just never really clicked with me.
And that says more about me & my tastes than about Pantera or any of their albums, really.

D.o.S., your hating of The Smiths is every bit as weird as my small dislike of The Pixies.

I'm not trying to place them into a reduced corner of a history-of-music context in an effort to justify my feelings about another band. The smiths just fucking suck.

The Smiths do not suck. They're the best British rock band of the 1980s, possibly the best band of the '80s period. Find a band more influential to the development of indie rock songwriting, lyrics, and potentially vocals, and I'll give you a box of cookies. Good cookies. Leclerc maple cookies from Quebec LOL. If there's a band who did ennui better, or heartbreak better, I don't know them. And the best thing is how smooth they managed to make being morose look. So again, there's a huge chunk of the aesthetic of a lot of modern music. I hate Morrissey's guts but I'm not silly enough to ever think he sucks.
