M Audio Axiom 25 and any lil midi synth like an MC 303... The Axiom keys are big and the whole thing is pretty rugged and you could put the synth module behind him or over by you with a long midi cable...

For $300 with full-sized keys, the choices are somewhat slim. For a few more hundred I would consider a Waldorf Blofeld Keys.

I have a critter and guitari Bolsa bass and I think that is dead simple and fun, seems like a pocket piano would be too. But what about an arturia microbrute? Those are cheap and look super fun

There is a key and non key Blofeld...
There are a thousand old midi synth modules you could get... Roland things, Korg things, Yamaha things all cheap as shit... I'll even break my rule and say Electribe and Axiom would do it, it's got pads that you could program for notes or riffs or samples or whatever...sonidero wrote:M Audio Axiom 25 and any lil midi synth like an MC 303... The minibrute is a mono synth.behndy wrote:i'm not seeing any Blofelds for less than a g. is there a smaller version?

I have seen the keys blofeld used for $550 or so before. The module can be found for $400ish used. There Are a couple on eBay.
The keys has 37 keys, so maybe module and controller.

Re: easy yummy small synth for my drummer
urf. yeah. i mean. i COULD do a midi controller with a little synth box, but we have so much shit to setup already i was hoping there was a little all in one solution. not just for ease of use/setup, but less room is better. his drums yarea gets crowded.
but thar might be the way i need to go? hurm. DOES open up options.
anybdody use the Kodg MicroX? looks like a dumbed down Triton with a soft synth librarian interface.

Re: easy yummy small synth for my drummer
I'd recommend an Alesis Micron (also sold as Akai MiniAK or something like that).
Quite small, full-size keys, excellent synth engine (it's probably one of the best virtual analogs), can be found cheap enough. The main restriction of this synth is the fact that there are not a ton of knobs/controllers (there are enough of them to assign important parameters when playing but editing is a bit more involved than just tweaking random knobs) but in your case that's a non-issue.
