I need a cheap/hella bass distortion/fuzz!

Post by ThurberMingus »

Just got asked to play a set in less than a month. Will be a two piece drum and bass noise fuck it band. It's for a music festival that my other band is already playing. All my nice pedals are on that board, so I want to put together a small rig for noise-rockin'. I'm thinking ???+Blue Box+Looper, I just need to figure out what ??? is. It needs to be loud and dirty and bassy and cheap. Like cheap as I can find. Like if it's less than $30 I'll be super happy, but could live with something under $50. I will be using whatever bass and whatever amp I can get my mits on, so don't you worry about that!

Tell me how to live ILF.

The Fab Tone makes the DS-1 sound like a jar in a box piece of shit. Oh wait, it IS a bees in a jar piece of shit

Serious though, these guys told me to get a Fab Tone not too long ago, and I'm glad I did. Best $30 I ever spend on pedlolz.

I'm only recommending it cause you mesnioned hella/noise. With the gain control all the way down this thing still screams and squeels like a mother, to the point where a lot of people find it unuseable.

You *could* always just use your other board, but than you wouldn't have an excuse to get the Fab Tone. Which you should :p

Wouldn't the bees be welcomed for noise rockin'? If you want the ultimate bee tone you can't go wrong with a metal zone.

True, but a hm-2 just has more bees in the jar, and threy're killer bees. With a treble/bass controls :)

I guess the fab tone is in the same league, though afaik its not a clone or anything. I never tried em side by side, Im sure someone else here has. A mij hm-2 easily goes for roughly twice the price of a fab tone though.

Another one with the same pedigree and a sub-$50 price tag would indeed be a dod/digitech death metal.

^ Agreed - MXR Fullbore Metal can get pretty damned br00tz on bass. Love the gate on that thing. Shockingly well calibrated.

And you can adjust the sensitivity internally on the gate as well. Love that pedal.

And of course you have the good 'ol standby of the Boss ODB3. I've had a love/hate relationship with it over the years but it does its thing well.

+1 on pretty much everything thats been said so far. I made it my mission to put together the ultimate cheap ass noise doom sludge board, and my dirt delection looks like this:

Fab Tone, FZ-2, Blue Box, ODB-3. Oh and a Mastotron, which costs a bit more, and happens to be my least favorite of the bunch.
