How YOU get a great bass tone and weird sounds using M13?

Post by leoandsound »

Hello people from ILFZZ!!!

In this topic i want to talk about juicing the LINE 6 M13 specially on bass, the internet is full of reviews, demos, presets and more but it's all about guitar, what about the bass???, i really think the M13 is a great stompbox modeler and still have a lot of potencial and if you think the same please share HOW YOU GET A GREAT BASS TONE AND WEIRD SOUND USING YOUR M13!!! (also if you use it with external pedals). upload photos of your presets if you want to, lets share and even learn a little!.

My signal chain is Boss Line selector (split the signal)>(signal 1)>MXR Dyna Comp>EHX Micro Pog>EHX Big Muff PI Bass>Line6 M13>Fx Loop Send>Boss dd5>Line6 DL4>Fx Loop Return>Line6 M13>AMP

Signal 2>Sansamp 2>Mixer.

I like to use the Sub Octave fuzz with 0% Sub high Gain, drive and Treble and Mid Bass to get an aggressive full dist bass tone, i also use a LP filter that the frequency is controlled by the EXP pedal to make a Synth filter fx.

Hope you like this topic! :!!!:

Would you mind taking a pic of your settings? How does it sit in a mix with drums?
I've never used my M13 on bass. For the 1 song I recorded I used a Boss Bass EQ into a POD X3 with just the factory setting "metal bass" (or something like that) which had a punchy (but cleanish) tone.
I do love the sound of a fuzzed out bass, but can never make it sound good myself so I wouldn't mind some tips. ;)

Trying to remember my favorite M9 effects... boost comp, dimension, script phase, ring mod, lo res delay, reverse delay, swell delay, pattern trem, cave verb, particle verb, and the EQs. Pretty much didn't use anything else.

I play guitar though so my opinions may or may not be valid.

I''ll upload a photo today and it fit great with the drums you just have to boost a little bit the attack of the kick drum and maybe the floor tom and a side chain can be useful to, i'm a professional Mixing Engineer so i always take into consideration how my setting will sound with the rest of the band, i'm working on a two piece proyect (bass, drums, synths and vocals) we use a lot of fuzz on the bass, bass synths and sounds great. :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:

I love fuzz pedals and love the sound of a distorted bass (i'm also a guitar player who plays his bass like a guitar with a lot of distortion) and the most useful tips i can give you is find the right balance between the dry and wet signal, if you have a bass signal with a los of distortion it can lose definition, low end and even become muddy so the best you can do is mix the dry signal with the distorted signal using volumen and eq that's why i split my signal.

If you need anything else just ask me and if you want something related with mixing just send me a message :thumb:

Toured for two weeks as a bassist (first time ever!) at the end of last/beginning of this month. Chain was P-bass (tuned CGDG and EADG) => Tuner => BB Preamp => Fromel Shape EQ => M9. Used the Tube Drive on the M9 (which I LOVE, for guitar too!) for a few songs, also used the Synth String and Particle Verb for some soundscaping and noise, mostly in between songs.

Thanks, best time of my life!
I'll try and get you some picks at the next rehearsal, if I remember that is.
