I gotta be honest. I don't even know what happened over there. I was speaking of teasing of a member I very much so respect and who is a great guy. Gregmon.

"unreasonable standard" is certainly debatable (but who got time fo dat shit)

Don't care to defend Paul? I believe your first post in this thread was a reply to someone who took a swipe at tb mods? Seems like you were pretty butthurt. Or butt sore?

I get that sometimes :erm:

Carry on!
This thread exists because of my actions on Talkbass.

I felt that the comments were made directly at me, and I was a touch defensive.

I think that setting up a troll raid on a neighboring sub-forum and documenting it in real time, ON THE FORUM, is one of the silliest things I've seen in forever. Criminal masterminds of stoogian proportions. That said, given the rules of Talkbass, EVERYONE knew there would be blowback. Half of the commentary was 'oh man, we are so getting banned for this' and 'if we get banned, worth it.'

Then I see this thread over here complaining about 'how dey done been wronged" by the mods, and figured it would be fun to defend myself, since I was the only mod who acted on it!
I definitely respect you popping in here and allowing some venting over at TB about what happened, I can't imagine who else would do that. I also think that (almost) everyone can appreciate what it is like to have a boss to have to deal with whom you may or may not agree with all the time. By the standards of TB, some things happened that didn't fit those rules. As you said, it definitely is a playground where the owner can define the terms of stepping onto the turf. It certainly isn't the only place in the world like that.

My only "complaint" would be the fact that, as others have mentioned over at TB, that there was/is some pretty persistent trolling in effects that never seemed to get shut down, and IMO, it is REALLY clear who the repeat offenders are...it doesn't take a lot of searching to figure out who/where/when/how. I believe that what was witnessed here was a case of a group of nerds :) getting pushed and shoved around by some bullies...never enough for it to "cross the line", but more than enough to be annoying...and then finally one day the nerds say "enough is enough with those bullies, let's get them back and play their game a little", but because they aren't quite as skilled at "flying under the radar", it gets seen and *they* are the ones who get caught and get in trouble. Unfortunately this leaves the bullies to sit back and chuckle, and just wait again for their chance to needle the nerds again.

Perhaps I'll suggest this over at TB in a way that doesn't come across as questioning moderation, but if there exists a clear and firm rule around "no ugly bass posts" that is regularly moderated vigourously, then why not a clear and firm rule around "no effects are toys/for unskilled goofs posts"? That would go a long way to helping things out.

Just my $0.02. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I'll point you to the effect forum rules, which no one reads. Rule #5

5. Posting anything in this forum phrased in a manner that could be construed as insulting the use of effects in general by bassists will henceforth be considered trolling, and will be dealt with accordingly.

Every, and I mean every, reported post is looked at. Believe me, Violation of rule 5 is MORE annoying to me than it is to you, because not only to I have to 'listen to it', I also have to listen to the sorry lot of you whining about it.

The way I like to handle it:
If they are a newbie to the forum that got sucked in because a thread hit the "front page," I delete the post/thread and send them a note with no points and a warning to check out the rules. If they are a veteran of the forums, I check out their posts/moderation history and weight decide how to proceed. If it's a salty veteran of constant flame wars, I hit them hard.

The way it sometimes gets handled if time is a problem:
Exactly by the book. Which is a warning w/points.

FYI, I did not create this thread to vent in any way. Frustration was vented, yes, but this thread was created simply as an alternative after the Breeder thread was deleted, and bookmarks were deleted.

TB is a business, yes, it is. It's a business that generates money using advertising and value add membership sales. Those highly depend on traffic that is the direct result of USER GENERATED content that is extremely loosely curated (not at all to be honest) by the mods.

This thread was not designed to be a bitching thread. When I started it, it looked like all our content was deleted for good and I just did not feel like being involved in another breeder thread when it can be deleted all over again.

Having never visited talkbass, I've got to say, a points based warning system on a gear forum seems lame as fuck, ILF's one rule seems to work just fine

Talkbass's warning system works pretty well, if I recall correctly. I got banned for some bullshit but mostly that's because I don't take kindly to upper middle class P&W cocksuckers acting in their default mode when talking about politics or any of the Off-Topic stuff. It irks me.

OTOH TBFX was always pretty rad. It's how I got here, after all. And at this point I've known Jwar and 'Caner and the rest of them for like a decade at this point? Not in 'real life' but as far as the internet goes. That's pretty cool.

Fair enough. I don't envy your job at all. I hope you guys get paid lots and lots and lots of money, because otherwise I can't imagine assuming a thankless and stressful role like that. Don't take my comment as a personal criticism or attack, it wasn't meant that way. I can appreciate there is a lot more behind the scenes complexity that people aren't aware of. That is why as a general rule I like to remain clueless.

If I didn't say it before, I'll say it now - I think you're a cool guy and appreciate the way you handle things. Hope that continues.

Funny you should mention that... I'm working on the T-65 demo right now with a TRS cable and some other goodies.

Music/Gear forums shouldn't be an honor based point system... We're ruining Music...
