My band's debut gig; free house show in Western MA

Post by Errant Tiger »

So my band is CATBASKET. We are not particularly fuzzy, but fall somewhere under the new acoustic death folk umbrella. American trad + British Folk Revival + Sabbath, on a good day. We've recently relocated to a big house in the Pioneer Valley and are hosting a house show with Rhode Island's Allysen Callery, who is an absolutely fantastic purveyor of "ghost folk."

CATBASKET has no recordings available yet, but this is my permanently-unfinished solo project, a few tunes from which will probably surface during the show:

and this is Allysen's bandcamp:

If any of this interests you, and you're anywhere near Shelburne Falls on the night of Monday, August 3, drop me a line for the address. It'd be great to see you.

EDIT! I forgot about these two Youtubes from a few years back. The first is CATBASKET, the second is just me.

Yeah, me too. Alas.

I keep missing Allysen's shows too, even though she plays in RI all the time.

Le sigh.

I kept missing her in both RI and Boston, so I solved the problem by inviting her over. Everyone's a winner!

What, Shelburne Falls isn't "around" enough for you? ;)

Seriously, though, we've got nothing else planned... we have been dormant for a couple years (and never made it out of the living room before that) so this is really a new beginning. It would be nice to do some stuff, but... not yet. Thanks for asking!

You can follow us on FB if you like, though.

If I can't ride my bike, it's too far.

How big a room do you need for a house show like this? We've got tenant apartment in our house and we're going to be taking over the space, essentially giving us an extra living room to play around with. I love the idea of hosting house shows but I think the space is really too small.

Whoops - had this reply open for a few days but tech problems got in the way.

Honestly, I have no idea. Our living room is maybe 25x15? For a quiet acoustic show that is not open to the general public, we are feeling pretty confident. Figuring we could probably seat about 30, in varying ways. Maybe 40.

We'll see!

I've never played a very big room in a house even with full bands. As long as you have a decent amount of wall space for amps and such and enough room to keep people off the drummer then you're probably fine.

Fortunately we are not dealing with amps or drummers, so we should be super-fine!
