I know you said not necessarily fuzzy, but MXR Submachine?

It's based on the La Machine, which is a Foxx Tone Machine clone (so octave up), with a sub octave circuit added that can go parallel into a separate out, or in series, or whatever. It's pretty cool.

Meatbox or another sub harmonic synth like a dbx or a Peavey Kosmos, possibly better run through its own subwoofer-ish setup. (I wouldn't worry about matching volume with your main rig or even being clearly heard--just being felt as adding some extra low sauce might be magic.)

You can set it so it only tracks the E and A strings. His guitar sounded thick as fuck. He plugged the octave signal into a compressor and a sansamp into a bass amp.
I didn't know that..good to know! what band was it?

I'd go straight to the Boss GT-001/100. Has two discrete signal chains possible, splittable by frequency at a point of your relative choice (ie pre-split effects, post split as well), run one to L out, one to R.

L to bass amp, R to guitar amp, set appropriately. Effects and thickening as needed on both. Profit.

I am increasingly turning my attention to those GTs. Also-if no one mentioned wouldn't the BDSM be useful for this? :idk: And pink? :p

The Submarine isn't allowed to be sold in America. They got sued or a C+D against them for infringement or something. Was going to pick one up but they wouldn't let me (I think it is crowd funded anyway right now...but hopefully after that is done they are still selling them).
That sucks, wonder what the other claim is. I just remember seeing the article and video and thought it might inspire the OP.

I remembered where I read it (it's really sad...I really was looking forward to it).
Submarine Website wrote:Dear Friends from America,

We're very sorry but The Submarine is not going to be available in the USA. We've had some very aggressive lawyers’ letters representing a company who have patented the method of using a two string pickup with an octave pedal. They are preventing us from doing business in the land of the free.

Honestly, I think it is a little weird that somebody can patent a magnet. Couldn't they just make a three string American version then? How could a patent be awarded when it essentially the same thing that has existed in guitars for almost a century? Teisco (or some Japanese factory) made two string pickups in the 60s and put three together. The submarine is just a shorter acoustic pickup or something anyway.

They don't list the patent number so it's hard to tell what the patent actually is.

They do mention a method claim (most patents have multiple claims however), there's a chance they are positioning themselves for greater latitude because handling method claims has changed a bit in the last 3-4 years or so.

I wonder if it is relating to the the octave part. When they announced the Submarine they kept refering to using it to provide octaves and I wonder if they put some words in their patent application mentioning to control octave pedals or something? Like if they had said to turn a guitar into a stereo setup or a tuner pickup would that have been different?

Oh well. Could just pick one up on a vacation (if they become widespread enough).
