Got my eye on the YC and DX, but I heard $500 each. Not completely unreasonable, but definitely on the steep side compared to similar offerings in the digital modelling realm. Might wait and try to snag a deal on a used pair later on.

i love me some yamaha sounds, but my gas subsided when i saw they were 4 separate units. they look rather uninspired to me, but this is definitely where the market is, i imagine a boardroom executive would say.

Organ would probably be sweet for droning, and I love me sone electric piano sounds, but $799msrp probably means at least $500, so fuck that noise.

Also only one midi port, which is probably only midi in. Booo. Could have controlled the volca. Meh.

$500? That's a pretty hard sell when most or all of these sounds can be had for a pittance through plugins. They look cool and I like the concept, but what do they offer that can't be had cheaper and easier?

Yeah people are wigging out everywhere over the price. I imagine it'll HAVE to come down. $799 is the highest I've seen mentioned (which is LUDICROUS), but I've only seen that in one place. Most of what I'm seeing is $500, which is hopefully retail vs street.

Anyway, someone else mentioned that these will most likely flood the market and retailers will have to offer them at much lower prices to get rid of their stock. Plus the fact that nobody is gonna wanna buy them at that price.

That said, I think the electric piano sounds on the CP sound pretty fucking great, and I'm totally into the DX. I wish the keys weren't mini, but hey... if these end up being had for $300, I'll take one.

Yeah $300 is reasonable.
Fuck paying anything more than that, even if build quality is solid and not toy-like.

I would rather get a real DX, they have more operators, this one has 4.

I've owned a DX7-2FD (6op/sine), a TX-802 (6op/sine), a TX-81Z (4op/multi), and a PSS-480 (2op/shitty sine). The 6op synths only had sine wave, but since you had 6 and could do more complex algorthms, you can mimic other sounds better: a more realistic sounding bell or e-piano or organ. But I found since the 4ops had more waveshapes, they more than made up for the lack of operators. They sounded more buzzy and synthetic, but they were better from a synthesis perspective for inventing weird new sounds. I think it all depends on the application. 4op is also a little easier to understand. I REALLY wish they had hi-res continuous knobs instead of incremental touch thingys though. That makes the FM so much fun on the Pocket Piano.

I could get pretty excite about a piano/combo organ mini keyb, but one or the other? And yeah, cray price is cray squared. But for those retro tones? Help me out, as a string simp I just don't know what's available. Is there anything like that? 6Ts/7Ts piano/clav/orgel in a mini form factor? :idk:

The mini world seems more crowdeder when it comes to the synthies....
