I think you're writing off my totally valid reasons for liking a band. Maybe it's not the same thing at all. I'm pretty buzzed on hard iced tea right now.

I don't care why you like against me. I'm telling you why I hate them.

I could write you an essay on why I think folk punk, and against me, and everything associated with it, absolutely ruined DIY punk in melbourne, australia, in the years 2004 up until about now. I could tell you stories about friends' personal experiences with being absolutely fucked over by horrible people in that band. I could share stories about the people I know who quote all the right on things that band does and then act completely the opposite. I could write another essay on the concept of marginalisation within activism as absolutely typified by a bunch of drunk shitheads singing along to 'baby I'm an anarchist'. Hell I could flat out say 'I don't like them' and that should be enough.

But it's easier to say please stop being so goddamn arrogant and assuming that the rest of us don't have well reasoned opinions on music when they happen to not agree with yours. No offence but fuck you for calling me crazy and constantly making my opinions out to be baseless hating.

I almost got an Against Me! tattoo once, it would have been the song title, "We Laugh At Danger And Break All The Rules." I decided against it at the last minute because I don't really care for band tattoos. Like, what if you got a band tattoo and the band got really fucking shitty all of a sudden and you were stuck with it. Or the singer decided he was really big on the KKK or something. I dunno.

More civil comment, you seem very interested in and motivated by the politics of the scene and bands' fans. Who gives a shit what Against Me! fans are like? Like, I am in no way anymore calling you crazy. You have a right to like and dislike things as you please. But this is the same as with Starflyer 59 in the failure thread, you're citing things that aren't really the band's fault as reasons for not liking them?

Like, you do know Against Me! sortof hates their old fans and has moved miles off from that time and that politics, right? The song "I Was A Teenage Anarchist" is aimed at old punks who bitch about things but don't actually do anything, "Don't/You remember/When you were young/And you wanted to set the world on fire?"

I hate the fans because those things directly impact on me and the DIY punk scene I've been a part of, and working on helping make with a lot of other good people, for nearly twenty years. They're the people that turned the place that was my one refuge from the daily fag bashings at school into a place that feels uncomfortable, unsafe, and rife with shitty behavior against the people who really need it. 90s diy punk hardcore political whatever wasn't perfect, but it was better than a stepping stone to major label success for crap sellout rock bands and recruiting for abortion clinic protests. I deal with that crap every time I go to a show. I don't deal with against me ever because I don't listen to them.

Punk music means as much to me as it means to you. Note, I didn't say more than, I said as much as. I like the music. I have always willfully, blissfully ignored anything beyond the music. Because that's what it's about to me. And it's cool if it's about the music, plus the politics, for you. We're different. One of the worst things about punk is the idea of "there" and having been "there." Like, what about HERE.

For me, music is about transcending politics. And from what I get out of what you said, I think it's like that for you, too... like you object to the AM! fans bringing a snobby brand of leftist politics into your scene. I think you got (righteously) mad about it and I ignored it.

It's beyond cool. To be fair to you, I know quite literally nothing about Australian punk scenes. And I'm wagering you don't know too much about Canadian ones.
