I've got an MV-8000 arriving today. I've sworn off computers. I will be using it to record guitar and bass, program drums and sample from old post punk vinyl like PiL and Gang of Four. I've also got a DSI Evolver and a Novation Controller Keyboard. I'm working on stripped down electronica/rock. Anybody using one of these? You can get them fairly cheap these days.
Consider that it is the equivalent of the most advanced MPC, a hard disk recorder, and multi-effects unit in one box. It can also take a mouse and a vga monitor to make it like a computer daw.
Roland is still selling almost exactly the same thing for well over twice what I paid for it as the MV-8800.
Ooh... that thing is NICE. Roland makes very solid stuff, for the most part. *mumblegrumblestupidMC-303mumblegrumbleeBaygrumble*
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
It is huge but I am really liking this thing. Great sampler. No latency. Great pads. Simpler than a computer daw but still very capable. Sometimes limitations are a benefit.

I am working on it. Just need a bit more experience with this monster bastard.
I'm not in a band. This thing is great for the one man auteur fulfilling his personal vision and playing everything. I guess a computer with a DAW is great for that, too, but somehow I like this better and these things are cheap for the power they wield these days. They don't have the kind of resell value an MPC has.
+ No internet or games or chat or discussion boards to distract. No need to optimize your system to use it or worry about viruses and problems with compatibility.

That's my biggest problem right there! I don't worry about viruses or compatibility issues but the distractions of having a DAW on a computer are enormous. Sometimes I just 'pretend' that my internet doesn't work and all I have to worry about is actually making music!

That's the key right there. Congrats on your purchase and I hope that you are able to work in peace!
