Gay is the new Black (Don't ask, don't tell)

Post by Bellyheart »

Here is a rather interesting story. They are going to repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which I think is disgusting itself. That was a smart compromise for Clinton to figure out(no gays in the service, no asking sexual orientation in the service), however, disgusting that it was necessary. I think we're past a point and have been past a point of it really mattering what you like and don't like to serve for your country.

It bothers me how much gays are openly discriminated against and how laws are made against a force, that has absolutely no effect on anyone. I keep thinking pretty soon we'll look back and have the same kind of "How could people be so barbaric?" mentality as most do when watching the US before the Civil Rights movement. Maybe tomorrow...

I should just (get up)
And treat these itchy bedsores
(get up) to making my indie-cred soar
my witty thread bores your kiddy pool party
this self-absorbed crowd is dull and foolhardy
(get up) to face thats like a homepage
(get up) in a day as long as a stone age
Im a quadruped pulling your dogsled
Yet in my mind we are all dead

Hey, Im always telling them to (get up)
But they stand-by like bystanders until I (get down)
Theyre camera-shy giant pandas and when they (get up)
They cant comply to my standards especially when I (get down)
Theyre camera-shy giant pandas?

Your retro hair bands gonna blow up
Cuz gay is the new black
And when you stray LA wont take you back
Im supposed to spearhead this Christian rap record
And not the musings of a winded fact-checker
So I feel about an inch tall
And I got pre-teens to enthrall
So I pimp all the cost shares, install the software
But still I feel like my back is against the wall

Im always telling them to (get up)
But they stand-by like bystanders until I (get down)
Theyre camera-shy giant pandas and when they (get up)
They cant comply to my standards especially when I (get down)
Theyre camera-shy giant pandas?

You can ward off U.S. wars
By fingering warped fret boards
See we exploit our talents so we can raise kids
Like my homie Trey, hes the poor womens Taye Diggs
But when it comes to love I stain the bedding
Catching bouquets at the wedding
But this dont go hand and hand with your Volkswagon van
Because you voted in a defrosted Cro-Magnon man
The Trogdolyte wins

Because you voted in a defrosted Cro-Magnon man
The Trogdolyte wins
Because you voted in a defrosted Cro-Magnon man
?
We dont believe in you

Well, explain to me what you think I don't understand, so you're not bothered.

From that chart, some allow the women, but not men.

I'd also be interested to see a comparison...out of any related problems/occurrences that have arisen because of gays in the military...how many times a straight person in the military was harmed/disadvantaged versus how many times a gay person has been harmed/disadvantaged.

It bothers me when people use bullshit excuses like esprit de corps to cover bigotry. And I say this as someone who grew up the son of a colonel and brother to a soldier who did 4 years in airborne. Both of whom agree with me.

I dont think i said anything about that, did I? I dont think i even really defended the practice...its funny how a little thing like what i said gets blown out of proportion isnt it? All of a sudden im a bigot...i personally bear those of the gay persuasion absolutely no ill will (i mean shit i wear a limpwrist shirt almost every fucking day) ...i just think there are certain people that would like us all to throw them a fucking parade for being gay. I simply think calling the dont ask dont tell policy disgusting is a little heavy handed. Is it really anyone elses business that youre gay? Since when did ones sexual preference become a public event? I do think the old "ive never engaged in anal sex" papers are most definitely outdated and need to be done away with. I just think its not really a matter of public policy. I think most will find that theres not really a whole lot of this perceived "we dont want no fuckin faggots in our army" going on anymore....the average soldier really gives a shit less whether anyone is gay. Although if you stop and think there are certain practical reasons for not wanting gays in the military.Either way im not going to get into an argument.

You misunderstood. I wasn't calling you a bigot. I was calling the DADT policy bigoted, and anyone who opposes doing away with it a bigot. And as for the argument that "it's no one's business, why are you talking about it", here's my answer to that. Have you ever worked in an office? Co-workers routinely ask each other about their families, wives, children, etc. It's a part of camaraderie. And soldiers talk about their families back home more than most. It's gonna come up in the normal process of working closely with people. It's a little ridiculous to expect people to have to answer those questions with either a lie, or a "I don't want to talk about it" (which would just single them out as a recluse or a loner anyways).

It's not that anyone wants them to ask. People are discharged from the military when it's discovered that they're gay. It's not the "don't tell" part. Yeah, nobody should ask if you're gay. But that's because nobody should care.

Oh, and we don't need straight people to throw us a parade. We do it way better on our own. ;)
