Reverb for bass?

My bands bass player is looking for one, and I'm not too familiar with what reverbs that can handle all the low end. It's for a lesser fuzzy/noisy project, so lawyer brands are also welcome.

I use my Dr. Scientist vinyl Reverberator on bass. It sounds like a Lee Hazlewood / Phil Spector production. Thump-a-psssssh. P/J-bass. I may part with it as it's gathering dust at the moment.

I use EQD Ghost Echo, it adds a bit of brightness I feel, so it's good for keeping stuff not-muddy It's slowly becoming a part of my tone for many songs

Depends how deep he wants to go. If deeper, I heard only good things about EQD Dispatch Master

I like the BOSS RV-5 in the "Room" mode for bass. I only use subtle reverb effect on bass to make it sound less dry. Everything above that sounds too muddy in my opinion.

I can personally attest to the Dispatch Master sounding like sexxx on bass (or anything else, for that matter). I actually just swapped mine off my guitar board and onto my bass board. Sounds natural, beautiful, and fucking massive. Like playing in a big pretty cave.

That being said, I've only used it for solo doodlies, so I can't necessarily speak to how it stands out in a mix. Still, I would imagine judicious use of the Mix control would be able to help with most issues of that ilk.

So far I think that the Red Panda Context has been the best bass verb I've tried. It's very nice and lush and retains low end perfectly. I've tried A LOT too. lol

I like the Iron Ether Nimbus on bass.
For subtler sounds the RRR is rad too.

I liked the Nimbus, but it was lacking something I couldn't put my finger on. Maybe the new version works better?

I guess it also depends on active vs. passive bass. Do you play passives?

Those take effects a lot easier from my experience.

I've had to go through a lot of shit to find the right anything with my bass because it has an 18v pre in it. But it's worth it to me! Sounds amazing now!

My top verbs are

H9 (Or Eventide Space)
Red Panda Context
Strymon Blue Sky
EHX Cathedral (I shit you not, this thing is FUCKING AMAZING)
Boss RV-5 (it's got a love hate thing, but I love it)

Things I've tried that were not as good

VFE Blueprint (it's a delay but has some verb qualities)
Iron Ether Nimbus (great but only for like one sound IMO)
Walrus Audio Descent (the WORST on bass I've ever tried)
Earthquaker Afterneath (WTF is the point of this thing, I'm sorry but it's terrible)
Source Audio Dimension Reverb (It's good, but not as good as everyone says)
Bitquest Reverb (sorry Ryan!!! It's just not that great on bass and only seems to be one type of verb, fun for massive sounds, but not for band stuff)


There's others I can't think of. That's just stuff I've tried semi recently. LOL

I use the RM-1N and RV-3 for bass. Just got the RV-3 but it is so, so good at clean verb sounds.

RM-1N is well, a RM-1N.

Also Jwar, I might rate the Afterneath worse than the Descent for bass.

Lies. Basically the typical sweet spot for delays, as far as being in a band mix goes, on bass sits around the upper mid range and tend to sound exactly not like you want an awesome reverb to sound when you're just playing by yourself?

It depends on the mix of the band though. Not all bands are over powered by guitars or drums, so you can be more creative.

I think he's just going to have to play with different verbs in this setting.
