My next question would be about el34bs and whether or not youre able to ship with them in there/like them enough to use them/hate them and won't use them.

I know that's splitting hairs but I really like them in British-styled amps.
El34B's are no problem. I only use Ruby-branded power tubes because they carry a no-hassle 6 month warranty, which is wonderful and almost impossible to believe is true. Most manufacturers/dealers/and especially amp companies do not warranty tubes for a single day! Ruby does not make tubes, but tests, matches, and warranties tubes from the Shuguang and JJ factories (and maybe one other?). The EL34B's are made at Shuguang in China, which are where the STR's I typically use come from too. I have found them to be the most reliable and consistent. The B's were created to hold up better in higher voltage amps (as in over the tube's limiting specs), such vintage amps, blindly copied clones, or poorly designed new amps). Back in the good old days, tubes could be run out of spec no problem for a few more watts, but today it's a very bad idea considering the quality of modern tubes. In fact, companies like Ruby, TAD, etc. would not exist if it weren't for the sub-par quality and QC (regardless of factory - they all suck). The B's sound a bit different, but the main difference is the gold-plated higher power rated screen grids. Because of poor alignment, the EL34's fragile screen grids often over-dissipate, especially in a high voltage amp. 6L6's are much more robust in this regard. So yeah, if your vintage amp is eating EL34's, try the B's, because 9/10 times you're frying the screen grids. I know of one German amp manufacturer who switched exclusively to EL34B's because their grossly-over voltage power supply designs were killing tubes left and right.

Yeah I've had those Shuguang 34Bs in the past and they are tasty.

That's handy info again, thanks dude!

I have been looking into a street sweeper but would buy a used one of I could find one. May be selling the Hiwatt to fund the purchase. I want it for my cleaner tones. I use a hovercraft falcon and a dunwich metropolitan for my dirtier tones. Though I really want another Dunwich, I can't wait 2 more years so Science seems like the next best thing.

you guys saying you'd buy used, like I totally get it and stuff. But don't write off considering buying direct from Alex even if it means saving up for a bit longer. You get to support an awesome builder and he was an absolute pleasure to work with every step of the way. Also you get to pick an obnoxious colour combination!

That's why I added the comment that I did on the link to the used Street Sweeper on Reverb in the Heads up! thread..

I think it's more of a matter of feeling bad about seeing the amp up for sale and feeling the urge to take it home and treat it right. The longer it's up for sale there's more of a chance someone who doesn't know what it is will buy it.

People who don't know what they are buying don't spend $1500 on obscure boutique amps.

You'd be surprised, how many people like to buy things just because they are expensive or look nice.

And if that's the case, who cares? Science Amps are not a private club for ILF members. I would be incredibly stoked for Alex if more and more people showed up with them in every town I play.

I agree. But I'm talking about the people that have $1500 to blow, not people that have $1500 they saved up for a specific purchase.

Ditch your hangups about the things strangers buy with their money. Your life will get much better immediately.
