I'd file Oxbow under "Respect, But Don't Viscerally Enjoy" in my record collection.

If I owned Oxbow records. Or filed my records LOL

Merzbow would be in there, too... all the 'bows

EDIT: I regret saying this. If you're reading this, I love you, Masami, don't forsake me

The Eagles suck, "Hotel California" reminds me of shitty high school dances because it was usually the last song played.
Bruce Springsteen is better, but only because "Jungleland" is rarely played on the radio.
The lesson is, the less you are exposed to it, the more fondly you remember such things.

Pretty superficial IMO...
Demographics ain't got nothing to do with refusing to cowtail when shitty music gets paraded as the good stuff.

All these bands reviewed by me

NIN = good in the '90s, used to really have things to say, but got rich and boring; good composer though
Foo Fighters = one good album and a few other good songs, Nirvana was better; "Everlong" is amazing
The White Stripes = peerless legends of their time, part of the pantheon, beyond haters at this point
QOTSA = used to be pretty good, Kyuss was better, Desert Sessions is better
Smashing Pumpkins = good in the '90s, and you can't fault the guitar playing, but Billy is a transphobic dickhead

The point is, all these are worshipped here… all extremely popular, personally I don't care for any of them, don't own any of their albums and never will, so what?

If I was to Pick a The Eagle of Death Metal… I'd Pick Cannibal Corpse, why? because Slayer is like Motorhead, AC/DC, Romones and Napalm Death in that although they "fit" with bands from the "scenes" they came from, found the thing they do very well and stuck to yet never really stagnated is AND they became huge influential milestones that let tons of bands build on yet never overcome.... The Eagles Like Cannibal Corpse did not really start what they were doing nor really were innovative but got very popular for whatever reason and become synonymous with the genre that spawned them: Country Rock Modern Death Metal :p

Fun fact: I have literally never listened to so much as one Cannibal Corpse song.

With a gun to my head, I could not describe their sound beyond "metal."

But I have seen their album covers! LOL

You know who I like though, Carcass. Heartwork is muh jamz

Fix'd.

The half time feel riff thing in Hammer Smashed Face is super good, and that scene alone is responsible for so many people scratching their heads and saying what the fuck, and a few of them getting turned onto death metal.

Also Alex Webster is one of my all time favourite bassists.

Hammer Smashed Face is my least favorite song of their's for whatever reason.. I think it is the squeal part of the riff  but.. lets face it it IS either the Hotel California or many the Margaritaville of deathmetal :p sorry not sorry :p and I REALLY hate Jim Carry :idk:

Stage banter from the time I saw cannibal corpse: "DO YOU KNOW WHAT MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD IS? PUSSY. THAT'S WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT."

Tbh that's why I don't really listen to them a lot anymore. I think they have an important role in the pantheon of death metal, and I really like some of their material, especially (ducks) since corpsegrinder joined, but my tolerance for junior high misogyny has gotten below the cannibal threshold. No way I'll see them live because of corpsegrinder' inane banter, and the fact that the guitarists look like they are bored of living. But still... Webster...
