Tube clips from a Fender amp

Post by spruce_moose »

My amp seems to be missing one of these. I was hoping someone might be able to advise me on what they are called please?

Anything thing I can think of doesn't seem to make a hit on google.

Tube retainers. That's what you're looking for. But I don't think those pre-amp tubes ever had retainers through. No room, no mounting points. Modern Belton sockets are very good at holding onto tubes though and just about everybody uses their sockets so you should be fine. What model of amp is this? A quick Google image search cross referencing yours against the photos you'll be able to tell if the pre-amp tubes should have retainers or not but like I said I'm pretty sure it never had them.

Haha I just noticed the reflection. This is a 12ax7 from a Deville. I couldn't seem to find a retainer that looked like it.

This one doesn't seem to be fixed to the socket, but is instead clipped into the hole in the chassis. Doesn't seem to retain much, but I think it just dampens the vibrations from the edge of the chassis.

If that's all it's doing, just Google "tube dampers".
You can get a 10pk for $5.

Do you mean the styrofoam looking things Fender puts around the AX/AT preamps on the Hot Rods? I can take a photo of the one in my HRD, as the one I thought showed it cut off the AX7s with retainers, hiding behind the attenuator.

And to not disappoint by thread title, here you go, live from the presses - a little ol' HRD run within an inch of its life with a battered old Digitech RDS LFO delay.
