Chelsea Guitars can choke to death on my giant cock, and I'd avoid Ludow, unless you want to catch HIV off their shitty attitude.

In Brooklyn, Main Drag rules supreme: http://www.maindragmusic.com/ He should def go out of his way to check them out.

Shitty attitude and ridiculous prices. That sums up the whole damn town. There really isn't a single decent guitar shop left in NYC.

Chelsea is a joke for the hedge fund collector set.
Main drag is has an acceptable selection of pedals but often sells above msrp or direct from builder prices. Not to mention that their guitar techs are hacks.
30th st, Rogue, Rivington, Ludlow. Wouldn't give an of them a dime.

Rudy's is alright if you catch them empty and in a good mood. Not a massive selection of pedals, but more boutique stuff than most stores. plus they have the prettiest guitars and are conveniently right next to my job so I can go down there on payday. The one great thing is that there really isn't room for masses to be playing the amps, so it really ends up being one person at a time.

I agree that NYC is not a good place to look for bargains, but many of the stores mentioned can be worth a look anyway, especially if you're nearby. Just google all those names plus "guitars" for addresses.
