So does the Freeze need its own isolared power? I was getting this continious high pitch hiss untill I pulled the Freeze off my board. Had it last in the chain, if that matters at all

EHX Freeze noise/hiss
I didn't want to waste precious rehearsel time trying out a different cables and all that, but now that I think of it...I was powering it with the same one-spot that was feeding a bunch of other pedals too :s

I don't own one, but I'm assuming they are digital. Most digital pedals like their own power.

My Superego does this, which is basically a fancier freeze. Isolated power supply indeed fixed it.

Mine...
DOES hum when daisy-chained with a crappy one-spot.
DOES NOT hum when daisy-chained using my Godlyke.

Not tried mine with a one spot but had absolutely no noise/hiss with a mxr dc brick which is supposedly a glorified daisy chain, gigged extensively in this setup.

Re: EHX Freeze noise/hiss
Most EHX pedals require an UNREGULATED power supply. When you plug your EHX pedals into your One-Spot or Pedal Power, which are regulated supplies you get this noise. Main reason why I stopped using modern EHX pedals really. Some better regulated power supplies wont have this issue, but the basic ones like One-Spots PSAs and Pedal Powers do.

I'd say the VS one-spot is far from crappy. Super compact, and yets packs a lot of juice. I've used one spots for years, never really noticed much hiss or hum.
Have to admit though, if the godlyke were available in Europe I'd be all over it and never look at the VS one-spot again

I still use OneSpots. Upon realizing that I can daisy chain out of my tuner, I just power my tuner with the OS and use a custom Y-daisy chain that I made to power my OCD and Twin City. Just cant use them with EHX pedals. Or I get that high pitched REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE when they're powered and engaged.

Does the Freeze want 12 volts, too?

Re: EHX Freeze noise/hiss
My Freeze actually came with a power supply, something generic and cheap and chinese looking. I've got a power strip underneath my board, so I'll tray that the next time. Thanks for the info, didn't know that at all.waltdogg wrote:Most EHX pedals require an UNREGULATED power supply. KInda sucks though. I can't think of anything else that's hiss-free and does the same job as the freeze. Except maybe large/pricey peds that also do other stuff tjhat I don't want/need...

@Waltdog: What's really fucked up, is that on mine, the annoying high pitched REEEEEEEEEEEE was constantly there, even with the pedal bypassed/off.

Re: EHX Freeze noise/hiss
No problem. Yeah just use the included power supply, it's included by EHX for a reason. I feel you though, EHX makes some pedals I'd actually use (like the Freeze!) but can't with my setup unless I want to power them all separately.
Oh man, that bites. I don't entirely recall the circumstances but when I had an LPB-1 in my chain but it definitely REEEEEEEEEEEE'd AT LEAST when I used it.

My Super Ego+One Spot has no issues. I must be lucky.
