I've been toying with the idea of doing a cosmetic overhaul on my RE-201. The tolex is starting to peel and the front is a bit shabby so i was thinking of stripping the tolex, sanding and staining the case, replacing all the hinges and stuff and maybe getting somebody to laser etch the faceplate?
I didn't pay enough to really give a crap about resale value and don't plan on selling it anyway, just not sure if it would be sacrilege i don't think i've ever seen a pimped space echo before.
hmm, that's not surprising i guess. another option that people seem to like is that Duratex texture coating stuff. curious about that.
i've only seen re-tolexed ones and that always manages to look weird.
Strip the tolex off, go none more black. Get everything blackened. Faceplate, probably black speed knob-type controls, don't polish or clean the vintage jack exterior/switch/nuts.
If I was stupid I'd even black out the back panel of the VU, leave the LED (and get a smoked clear cover to black that out too).
Past that it's a Space Echo, it's never going to win any beauty contests.
That era Roland stuff is like the electronic instrument version of antigua finish - hello, 70s refrigerator!

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
that's a great idea. i honestly might do something along those lines. i could probably give all the metal hardware a light sandblast too and put black metal corners on it.
i've always liked the look of 70s/80s Roland stuff but i think it doesn't suit heavy cosmetic wear as much a lot of other stuff. would be fun to make it something new.
