Fuzz for keyboard/ organ?

Post by Phengren Oswald »

I have a Moog Opus 3, and it gets a pretty decent organ/ almost mellotron like sound.
I'm looking for a cheap fuzz that has a more 60's garage kind of sound, not too grind-y.
Like maybe a Fuzzrite or ToneBender type of thing?
I have a Supa-Tone, which is bad-ass, but is actually a bit too insane sometimes.
Thoughts?

I've got an Opus III, give me a few days and I'll try a bunch of Fuzz for you...

The Mini and Algal Bloom are awesome cause I've used them and I'm pretty sure the Megalith destroys with the lower organ bars and some brass mixed in...

I rather like overdrive for organ. I cannot really recommend a certain fuzz, because I haven't done a organ/fuzz shootout yet. I can do that in the next time, though ...

For mellotron-like stuff (one of my go-to patches on the keytar and guitar synth), I usually go straight to the Ampeg Scrambler - blend optoin alone is worth the hassle on keys.

Less is more unless you have a blend, at which point you can go to yoyotown.

+1000 to mellotron keytar scrambler blended yoyotown.

scrambler sounds like a good option for sure, otherwise something with a mix or blend like TAFM (what I use, works great). You also have to consider that some fuzzes aren't going to play nice with the line-level volume of the moog.

Scrambler has zero issues FWIW, it doesn't care if you run a semi through it.

Alright, I played for an hour using about 20 different pedals and cause ILF I loved them all... I set up a basic Organ sound with the others turned off, I kept the Organ vol at 12 and the master at 2 or 3 and non of the pedals seemed to have an issue... Played through a Peavey Mark IV head and 2x15...

The standouts were the Mini, Fingerprint (which was a nice surprise), Bass Algal, Suneater Dual, Pharaoh (nother nice surprise), and the Megalith (for destruction)...

I played several Muffs; Green, Black, Lil, Pharaoh, Fuzzstar, and the best was the Pharaoh but they all have good sounds... You can definitely tell when a Muff is on the Organ...

For craziness the HM-2, Grunge, Death Metal, and Metal Master all had good results but it's not Fuzz or OD... I'd pick one up just for fun along with a Fuzz or OD...

The regular Algal, Demo Tape Fuzz, Old Black, Magic Meter, Elements, Bottom Booster, Bass Grunge, and Fuzz Huger all sounded great and each added something different... I payed a few with Brass and Strings added and they all rocked...

I guess you should look to see what you like best and try it out, I really didn't get bad results with any of them... I you have questions about something let me know... :thumb:
