Delays w/ trigger in

Post by Dandolin »

So, brethren, I confess I was blind to the triggered delay repeat possibilities--but then spake lordgalvar and the scales were lifted from mine eyes.

Got a Boss DSD-3 (meet the new Boss--same as the old Boss (DSD-2)), and the trigger in is brilliant for lofi sounding delay repeat riddims and feedback looped glitchies. This concept was pretty far under the radar for me, and I suspect for many. Don't know that there are tons of delays past/present/future that feature this feature, but I wanna explore some more; maybe find some new textures/glitches.

Okayso, I know about the DSD-2/DSD-3 and the RPS-10. I'm pretty sure the Timebender does this too. Anything else y'alls can turn me on to? Off to discofreq's wonderbase to see what he's catalogued....

Muchas gracias

Would the koma be able to do that? It seems like it should.

Yeah, thanks mang :)* --I need to look closer at that--it looks like there are crazy levels of control on that jawn. But the Moog also has fantastic control, but no trigger in, I don't think....

Hmmm. Not sure if I'm smart enough to interpret this--looks like you can control all kinds of parameters with cv--maybe the cycle in can be set up to work as a "repeat" trigger? Either way--thanks for bringing that to my attention--I think the whole concept of this delay was overloading my circuits and I dumbed it down in my head to "another Moog MF-104," which it clearly is not. No offense to any MF-104 devotees; I know there are many good reasons for such devotion, but this Koma really lights my loins beyond what the Moogerfooger does to me. If anyone can confirm how the Koma's cycle in functions it would be much appreciated. Also--keep dem suggestions coming! Thanks....

Echo Plus had a trigger input, I think it's the only PDS that did...

DSD is awesome.

Rainger is coming out with a weird digital delay with different modes where you chan trigger repeats ("send to" mode). It isn't out yet, but it sounds awesome.

Hey--thanks--Echo Plus seems pretty rad. Made me look, too--apparently PDS-2000 also had trigger in; those seem pretty affordable....

Wow, I'd never thought about this before but it's a very cool idea. Could see a lot of interesting uses for that!

Sadly I don't think it does. There's a function where you can input a rhythmic pattern for the repeats using audio (generally strumming a muted guitar) so you can get the same sort of sounds, but as far as I know it can't accept a live trigger from an external source.

The pattern thing is still pretty cool but it's limited to a certain number of steps and you have to set it by playing the guitar or whatever instrument is plugged into the pedal.

Now I want something with this functionality though... With a sequencer or somehow a switch you could press with your foot to trigger a repeat I can see some super fun possibilities.

There were the DOD Sampler delays too. DFX91 and 94 I think. I don't know too much about them though.

Yaz--have a DFX94 incoming and it will make a loverly pair with my DFX9/DSD3, especially after I play with some trims, but alas, no trigger input in sight....

I just checked out some videos on youtube of this it sounds awesome. I'd seen it done with trems before but never delays.

It would be really easy to make a Trigger In to Ext Tap converter so you could use it with a lot more delays... hmmm...

It would be more complicated, but you could use the mix to turn on and off the delay on the Moog (and CV control more stuff like the feedback and d.time). That would be pretty wild. The CV would just have to be a hard Square or something.

On the Koma you would have to control the feedback. It would be different.

I think the real beauty of the DSD-2/3 is that the trig in has bleed over into the signal path. When a feedback loop is put into it, it seems to reandomly trigger repeats at the peaks of the feedback loop while having washes of modulation around the signal at all times. When you press the pedal to make it trigger (different mode) it goes to clean repeats for a second then back to modulated. Weird stuff.
