Or because Matamp stuff apparently breaks all the damn time.

And because Matamp gear is relatively non-essential to the Sleep/High on Fire tones, contrary to popular mythology.

MPike seems to favor Soldanos and Marshalls and Blackstars these days.

Yeah, but the Marshalls do not do the Sleep sound. I feel like I have no right to tell Sleep when they sound like Sleep. But TBH I've seen videos of Dopesmoker with Marshalls and it kinda sucks. Also Matt pike says a lot of shit. "[Green Matamps] are the best amps. You can do things on those amps you can't do on other amps." He said that it in the little Dopesmoker documentary on YouTube. Hey, maybe he was high!

I've seen OM/Sleep/High on Fire with Marshalls and Oranges and whatever else. It doesn't make a serious difference, not that I want to piss all over your OrMat boner, because I totally get and endorse that, but they're not nearly as essential as the discussion everyone was parroting from 2004 or so when the Tee Pee version made people actually able to hear Jerusalem without that godawful Rise Above bootleg/London records mix. Also and incidentally: All of the early high on fire stuff is mostly a Soldano pre, which is why he got rid of the Greens (that and they broke all the time, according to popular legend).

That "doc" is the Sleep section part of Such Hawks Such Hounds, but the Sleep tone is basically just need a Distortion. a Les Paul, and a melting amp. And, if we're talking Dopesmoker, like 11 guitar tracks or something?

As an amp, maybe. I don't think Verellen will ever/wants to ever be as ubiquitous as Ampeg, though.

Sounds like the kind of thing that was totally a fuck up, but then they just said it was intentional from the get-go.

(I don't actually think that and it's quite cool)
