Re: We talkin' about the new Strymonz (DIG)?
When half the actual units are available for less than the price of the feature-limited (because it will be, because...consider the maker) "replica"- I don't understand the point.
Half the weird 80s rack delays are more than just their delay - it's the preamp and the how it works and the LFO and other oddities On the later ones, there's control and depth past a few knobs and settings that are the reason to own them.
Big yawn, but I was less than floored by the ElCap (which suffers from "have you heard a tape echo" syndrome in modelling that seems to think they all have wow and flutter to a point where the tape would eat itself during the first pass.....

I can get behind that rfurt, I guess the upshot of this golden age of digital tape we live in is that at least the tape doesn't have to get fucked up in order to achieve craziness?
That and not everyone loves rack gear as much as you.
That wasn't a go at you.
It was just a nod at the wheels of convenience.
There is a big dollar sign attached to being the easiest option.

I think the El Cap has a lot of merits but you cannot even begin to compare it to a tape echo, to enjoy it i think you need to embrace it for what it is rather than what it's attempting to recreate because it reacts nothing like tape at all. it's not 'wow and flutter' if it's perfectly even and calculated, but that works for a lot of people so sonically it has its place.rfurtkamp wrote:Big yawn, but I was less than floored by the ElCap (which suffers from "have you heard a tape echo" syndrome in modelling that seems to think they all have wow and flutter to a point where the tape would eat itself during the first pass.....

So, they're stealing DigiTech's thunder again?
I still want to try an El Cap, but I'm not really interested in any of their other pedals.

I'd agree, if it was advertised differently. We have an entire generation of guitarists who think tape delay actually sounds like what these boxes have told them it does.Iommic Pope wrote:I can get behind that rfurt, I guess the upshot of this golden age of digital tape we live in is that at least the tape doesn't have to get fucked up in order to achieve craziness?
And when it's lauded for its' authenticity (which I've seen here, of all places), I just cringe more.
I don't disagree - if the convenience comes without losing the essence of the devices in question. You don't need many knobs or a massive screen to make deep editing possible. An example: the Lexicon Vortex has four knobs and five buttons (one of which would be the tap tempo switch on a pedal), and a 2-digit LED with a 2 position A/B dot marker. It's not lacking for options in any way. That and not everyone loves rack gear as much as you.

That's what I'm talking about in terms of depth of edit (which you don't *have* to do if you just use the onboard presets, which they could include easily).
Can be easy to use without being a pale imitation of the thing it's chasing IMO.There is a big dollar sign attached to being the easiest option.

It's a case of advertising and presentation. "A new take on an iconic sound" would be more honest and likely sell.backwardsvoyager wrote: I think the El Cap has a lot of merits but you cannot even begin to compare it to a tape echo, to enjoy it i think you need to embrace it for what it is rather than what it's attempting to recreate because it reacts nothing like tape at all. it's not 'wow and flutter' if it's perfectly even and calculated, but that works for a lot of people so sonically it has its place.

Brigadier is better than the El Capistan, I think atleast. Decently tweakable Analog Delay w/TT, can't complain.
Ofcause, the best Strymon is a used one.

if they use the second switch for a dedicated hold mode like a pds that you don't have to hold down and you can change the delay time for slower loops, I might be interested. I agree with this entirely though:

So, rfurtkamp and other 80s rack cognoscenti, before the market blows up on these due to Strymon's pot-stirring, which of the Deltalab ADM units are most worth chasing down on EBay? Please and thank you!

'digital emulation of a digital delay'
is a phrase that sounds funny, but it makes sense if you think about it
I wonder if pedal makers in 2030 will be making Line 6 Spider II emulations

They just didn't have the length I wanted to make it worth my time (TWSS).
They used to be $50 specials, and I didn't want 'em then, I don't now either!
