Is this directed at the Brian Cook board pic?

Obvs?

In case you're not a bass player/Whammy user/Tool fan as far as your gear nerder-y, the constant complaint about the various iterations of the Whammy for the years that they refused to reissue the Bass version and the XP-100 was out of production (nevermind the fact that it has a crap bypass and had a reputation for being fickle beast) etc. was that whatever model was being built inevitably didn't have the 5th/Octave harmony mode, made famous by Justin Chancellor of Tool -- and just the most generally 'musical' harmony shift the Whammy has to offer, particularly for musicians who might not have the best grasp of theory and/or play in pretty mundane bands.
good deals are here.

Yes, I'm a Tool fan and know the 5th/Oct is the Bass whammy, yada. I just didn't know what that had to do with Cook. :excellent:

I was on the verge of an anxiety attack waiting for an opportunity to ask Chip if I could check out his board. I guess it's because their music is so dark&hateful, I imagined him to be really introverted and mysterious hahahah I almost didn't, but the opportunity presented itself and he invited me on up. he was fucking awesome. "prepare to be underwhelmed" were his words, but I found his set up to be fucking rad. it's always awesome seeing those trogotronics in the wild. his is a 556 I think. I recognized the MB and he went nuts about it. apparently the spot was occupied by a tape machine before but it shit out. asked him if he was able to sustain notes with it and he demonstrated, pretty much sold the thing to me. he started talking about the cv patches, I tried asking him what exactly do they do and he had no fuckin clue  the look on his face was fucking gold "if it sounds good I keep it if it sounds bad I change :idk: " the show was about to turn into a geartalk, so awesome. very fun and humbling experience. it was also so insanely loud.. could feel it reverberating throughout my body. unfortunately had to dip right after so I missed out on Full Of Hell & hangz

anyone know what the amps are besides the Sunn??

He's a super nice guy indeed, didn't really expect it as well! I loaned him an amp for their Europe tour and he was really super nice the couple of times I met them for it (they just posted on their facebook page that they needed an amp and I hit them up with my crappy stack of SS heads, he went with my Peavey Century in the end). Anyway, had some geartalk with him too, and he uses PA amps and cabs for the low end of his rig if I remember correctly. Don't know exactly which ones though. He didn't have them on his Europe tour and said he felt weird without them. Apart from that he just uses an MXR Dist+ for his guitar right? I guess that's what he thinks of as underwhelming? All the other stuff is for the loops/noise I guess?

Also, they trigger some pretty cool sounds from the bassdrum. The kind of rumbles they produced with them, holy shit :omg:

that's fucking awesome of you! I thought it was cool that they were just running SS. pretty interested in snagging something like that now :P

yeah, on the floor he had the MXT dist+ and another pedal, didn't catch them though. when he said that, he was referring to his box of goodies ha, humble guy. if that's all he uses for his guitar, it's pretty damn crushing. I asked him about routing and he said it was all mono :idk: I had my eyes closed for most of their set, so I couldn't really tell what was doing what. it was just a massive crushing fucking wall of sound

indeed! sounded like robots from the abyss backing their tracks

Not a full pedalboard, but this pedal caught my eye when I worked with the Foo Fighters.

My friend Parker of Cough/Windhand has talked to him about his cabs and amps before. Apparently a lot of his sound is A) the cabs being loaded with PA/car audio speakers. He told me that Chip likes to use them cause they're cheap to replace and can handle a ton of watts. B) Apparently the rack heads have a bunch of feedback loops or something wired up that way. Not sure. The few times I've seen him he was either using a Micro Amp or a RAT with a blue LED which makes me think it was modded. I'm curious about his guitar. When he flips the pickup selector switch all hell breaks loose. I'm wondering if one pickup has the volume rolled almost all the way back and the other one is full bore.
