I've been playing through an Acoustic 150 lately and liking it a lot. It has a bright channel that's voiced like a Fender Twin and a regular channel that's voiced pretty flat, like a power amp. I'm wanting to get most of my dirt from fuzz, but the bright channel gets a little hissy when you slam it with gain, and the regular channel isn't the most guitar amp sounding channel in the world.
I'm looking for a Preamp or OD pedal to go last in line before the amp. Preferably one that can take some gain and has a nice EQ. And reasonably cheap. In other words, I want to set it reasonably clean with moderate output and sometimes overdrive the input of the pedal.
Preamp/OD pedal to run with Acoustic 150 Amp.

Budget?
Butler/Tubeworks?
one of the EHX tube pedal/pre's?
the new little Laney pre?
a used Frenzel, if you can track one down?
or, my answer to everything, Fryette SAS. Fair amount of headroom, LOTS of output. Run it clean, cleanish, or filthy as all hell; at unity, just above, or at "yeah, so that's why I got arrested" levels.

Looking for something under $200. I can run my Pro Tube 30 into it but it's kinda murky if you try to keep it clean. If I go that route, it works best to just forget about clean and use the AOR crunch and goose it with boosts.
I have a Black Forest clone, but it seems to annoy the bright channel. I haven't tried to back way off the gain and just run pedals into it. I'll go for that next.

The tube works stuff, pedal or rack, can be found for <$200 on ebay.
There's three Fryette's on used.gc right now, $80-$99. I'd be surprised if they are used, probably old stock that never sold - neither GC nor Fryette ever advertised the damn things, you had to be in the know to know that they even existed and every GC I've ever seen stock them had them hidden behind the counter. Fools. One of the greatest dirt boxes ever. If you (or anyone else reading this) buys one - and you should - you should a) ask if it's stock (MORE output, but the output pots is touchy in the first 1/4 turn) or modded and most importantly b) DEMAND that they provide the power supply (it's more or less proprietary, would've come in the box - I've seen more than one GC take them out of the box, try to use them with other pedals and when they don't work they get left on a counter and end up in the junk/clearance box)
