Re: Favourite pedal lately
Well, the bad news. MUCH less output. The original can supposedly put out +/- 50 db boost/gain, and the Outsider claims 35 db. It won't do the infinite feedback/sustain & moter-boating amp shit the Systech does at higher output settings.Uncle Grandfather wrote:So how does it compare to the real deal? The Mad Titan wrote:Lone Wolf Audio Outsider
However, the outsider set for around 3/4 output and gain is ~ the same level of boost/gain I used the Systech 99% of the time. Being able to control the amount of gain independently is nice also (the Systech has one overall gain/volume control), but it also has less gain and the gain seems a little smoother/less raw and gnarly. I think there may be a hair less range too. The Systech had a hair more booty I believe at extreme settings, but as for the general overall tone it nails it well.
It's got the same dry/resonant tone that can at some settings sound dull, but when run through a distorted amp/pedal, an OD, or fuzz it sounds massive and pummeling. Like if I've got a bright med gain crunch tone I can stomp on this and have instant Matt Pike. I've got it set now where it sounds just like my original did into my set up for my main heavy distortion tone (Systech > Mesa Tremoverb vintage high gain channel).
So the good news is it does what I used the original for 99.9% of the time, serve as a good super heavy and unique sounding Parametric Filter+OD.

The other good news, it's ~ 1/4 the size of the Systech.

Thanks For the info. That's good to hear that it is working out for youThe Mad Titan wrote:The other good news, it's ~ 1/4 the size of the Systech.
Sounds like it wouldn't be able to stand in for mine, I use it for the more extreme settings. I wonder how the Fredric fairs...

Me too. One of those and a couple of expression pedals would be awesome IF it has the output of the Systech. If not, it's just an over the top wah, still pretty awesome but not unique.Uncle Grandfather wrote:Thanks For the info. My favourite pedal lately is the EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress... the big one with the dedicated power source, the volume drop, no LED, huge footprint... none of it matters... it's exactly the rich whoosh I imagined it would be. So good with fat palm-muted chords.

Fuck Mountain stole my heart. When I started building my new, 'serious musician' pedalboard, I had a simple setup in mind: 60's Spaghetti Western fuzz, Russian Big Muff, Catalinbread tape echo, amp style tremolo. I stumbled into the Fuck Mountain trade and it has won me over. So far, I have been able to make broken radio fuzz, clean treble boost, warm distortion, and insane noise with it. Honestly, I had no idea I would love it so much. Just a straight-up tool for making rock'n'roll music.

ZVex Fuzzolo straight up into an Acoustic 150. It doesn't stack that well with other dirt; it seems to get dark with too high gain of an input signal OR going out to most high gain pedals (OK with some other fuzzes, though). It sounds great with non-distortion effects, though. I mostly use the gate settings, which are still focused enough to rock out hard. The smoother settings are great too, especially with the guitar volume backed off.
Still looking to bond with other pedals. Really, the only pedals I've definitively bonded with are Russian Muff, Devi Ever Bit, Guyatone Mini-OD and 70s Morley Power Wah. I'm still looking for the perfect baseline fuzz-stortion-overdrive. I'm content to use a Boss ME-70 for my non-distortion needs.

Re: Favourite pedal lately
I've been mostly just using my Zoom MS-70CDR on a tweaked plate reverb with the Casino Coupe going straight into the Pathfinder. Nothing else as I'm just exploring the sounds of the Coupe. I really like a lot of the non-gimmicky/non-shimmery reverbs of the Zoom.
Runner up would be the Disaster Transport. I thought I might use the Belle Epoch a little more when I got it, but I'm really liking the DT to the point of rarely turning the Belle Epoch on.

Seppuku Echo Modulator with Flow and Feedback Mods. It has no swastikas, and it has a dry kill switch. I haven't even scratched the surface with this but what I used today was just stupid cool.

Well, I haven't turned my Warped Vinyl off since I got it. I love how thick and gooey it gets with dirt. I need to get an expression pedal for it soon.

I got that other Kompakt Kassette on Saturday. This one actually came in a box with warranty cards and stuff (but I think that they were added by the distro). Anyway, the box looks pretty rascist. I am glad customs didn't open it. It's embarrassing.Strange Tales wrote:Seppuku Echo Modulator with Flow and Feedback Mods. It has no swastikas, and it has a dry kill switch. The DPM-2 is pretty neat, but I will stick with the rattle crow and 88.

I can't tell if I like the DPM-2 or not from videos I've seen. Outside of the IC/Digital Water though I don't really see a need for other Seppuku pedals now.
