I did watch Evangelion when I was a shitbag teenager and to be honest I don't really remember 90% of the show. I remember the music though. Most stressful music ever.

Not watching Pinces Kaguya means you are dead inside and hate all animation that is good, just say'n.

I love Evangelion so much. People like to rag on it, but it's definitely the kind of show that you either click with it or just end up hating. Though I do think that genuinely liking Eva is still less pretentious than the kind of people that have to over analyze it to the point of nausea.

But seriously, the show doesn't get enough credit for being even created with the looooooow budget that it had. That along with the fucking dark subtext and imagery.

This is very true. Such a beautiful movie. Apparently they animated the backgrounds quite blank/simple so that kids could use their imagination to fill in the blanks. That is pretty brilliant.

On EVA, yeah, in a way it's pretty straight forward, but there as well some things are left open to your imagination. I tend to prefer that to overexplanation, as it provides more food for thought. And the imagery in EoE is so stunning. I think Anno has said that it doesn't "mean" anything, which I can sort of get. But again, there are enough ideas and plot points provided that several interpretations can work, kinda like 2001. Yeah, analyzing it is fun, but all the people claiming to have the one and only trve interpretation to Evangelion sort of miss the point IMO.

Mmm i agree. I don't know if it's one of my favourite things ever but it's undeniably important.
There are very few places on the internet i feel comfortable even talking about anime because so many people seem to think they can dissect everything and tell you why it's 'good' or 'bad', as if it transcends the obviously varied impact anything can have on someone personally.

I'm still following 25 shows airing at the moment  A lot of it is nothing special but i really like Kekkai Sensen, Shokugeki no Souma and Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku (and Teekyuu ofc)
Kind of puzzled at why they re-edited GITS Arise into a TV series, the pacing is super fucking weird, i like it but it worked a lot better as movies. At least we get 2 new episodes and a movie eventually too.

I also remember liking it a lot but like I said, I don't really remember the finer points of the plot. I'll rewatch it all when the movies are all done n' stuff. I'm also definitely someone who likes to dissect everything (sorry) but I wouldn't ever call it over analyzing because that implies that you are seeing things that weren't put there by the creator? I just want to know exactly why I personally like or dislike a show, I try not to make comment on a shows objective worth. Sometimes I do know but I don't expect anyone to listen to my opinion because, you know, it's opinion. When you want to get into the nitty gritty of art though you're going to have some strong ideas about things and I think that is part of the fun :idk:.

Also, I'm not watching any of the shows you mentioned bingwords so I'll give them a shot. How did Owari no Seraph end up btw? I watched the first episode and got the feeling it was either going to be pretty cool or overly violent and melodramatic silliness. The show I'm looking forward the most every week so far is probably the new season of OreGairu. Super attached to that show for some reason. Think I just see parts of myself in a lot of the characters.

That's the distinction i think a lot of people seem to miss, I don't really see it here but when i've like tried out forums or discussion groups it's like being bombarded with commentary that implies objectivity and doesn't really show a lot of understanding. It's definitely fun deconstructing things but sometimes i get shivering flashbacks to high school english classes when it crosses the line from interpretation to objectification.

I like Owari no Seraph enough, for me it's sort of cool/entertaining enough to happily watch each week but I can't really rate it too highly. It's about what i expect from new anime.
OreGairu has been cool, in any other show i'd consider the drama a bit too draining but it works in this case for whatever reason, I do look forward to it.

The only show I really thought was outright shit was Houkago no Pleiades, i tried it because eh Gainax why not, but they were literally commissioned by Subaru to make a magical girls anime to try and promote their fucking car brand. The subtle promotional references made it infuriating to watch, haha.

I still don't really get Ninja Slayer either, i wasn't expecting to like it since i couldn't bear watching Inferno Cop but i was looking forward since the ED's are done by different artists each week and Boris and Melt-Banana both contributed new songs to it.

Eh, I'll probably avoid Owari no Seraph then but that Subaru thing kind of sounds hilarious? Sort of want to watch it to see just how bad it is. I haven't seen Ninja Slayer but I could only ever really watch Inferno Cop when I was super stoned.

Also hoping that the Kyoukai no Kanata movie gets subbed soon, I would quite like to see that. Speaking of GITS and making movies into shows and shows into movies, why do studios bother recutting stuff for cinema release? Do people really go see those things (I mean, guess they must but I don't get it)? Learnt a while back that they were doing two movies of Haikyuu before the second season aired and it just seemed a little silly to me.

I honestly could give a fuck less about the story of the show towards the end, I don't even know where it went with Adam/Lilith/Tree of Life/Vagina in Monster Rei's head. I was really, really into the whole emotional aspect of the entire show and I imagine if I watched it a few years ago that shit would've crushed me flat. Definitely a fantastic show though, I just haven't actually run it all through my head yet.

Owari no Seraph is fun to watch, I just think Shinoa is fucking cute as fuck. Houkago no Pleiades honestly isn't that bad, it's whatever. But the OP song is by Kano, who I'm sort of insane about. Ninja Slayer is basically Inferno Cop but not as funny. I'm sort of bummed I was excited for it because it's the animation of Inferno Cop with none of the fun.

Currently airing shows I'm super into are Hibike! Euphonium, Arslan Senki, Sidonia no Kishi, and Ore Monogatari. God Ore Monogatari is so adorable it's disgusting.

Exactly. I'm a huge fan of EVA and enjoy hearing different takes on it, but some people on sites like imdb take their own interpretations way to seriously and spend time focusing on small details - which of course can be cool, but not when you're taking your own opinion as gospel. It kind of sucks the fun out of HOLY SHIT HE SQUASHED HIM IN HIS HAND WHILE BEETHOVEN WAS PLAYING THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SAD etc.

I also find it weird. Was really into Gurren Lagann, and was kinda psyched for the movies (should've known better). It just feels so rushed, cramming several episodes into two hours, cutting away most of the character development and build up. I guess they earn more money doing it? :idk:

I think they're pretty good at making money which is most of the reason. Anime basically relies on selling ovepriced blu ray discs to sustain itself so throwing other things like theatrical runs out there helps lessen the strain as far as i'm aware. I think it's more of a thing for fans in Japan and less something we have to worry about when following things. I usually skip movies if they're recut unless i haven't watched the original material in ages, it's important not to really get your hopes up about them, haha.

Hibike Euphonium has been just OK, so far.
And I agree with you about Oregairu, voyager. The drams is just pffft. I feel like first season had more laughs, and then Hikki would give those really deep monologues that were just like "Oh, damn." Now it's just everyone having all these feelings and not saying anything and blahblah hikki why are you this way ;__; Kind of annoying.

Ore Monogatari has been a treat, it's cute. Just fluff, but makes me feel good.

And I'm waaaaayyyy late, but I started watching Fate/Stay UBW. Pretty cool so far. The last action anime I watched was FMAB, so this is a nice change of pace. I done goofed, tho, and looked up to see what hero Archer was. Ima idiot.
