Heh, go figure - free P Bass content

Post by rfurtkamp »

Just got notified that I was the winner of Hello Music's April giveaway for a Fender Standard P Bass in Artic White.

Never been a fan of the color (but I have an Oly White Strat, so go figure), but free, who cares!

Says it ships next week.

I'm a pastel/ugly color guy on non-burst, non-natural stuff myself - white/black/red bore me to tears (yet my J-bass is black, but at the time it was the holy trinity only offered).

Not much of a P bass guy either but I've used them in the past - if I even half like the instrument, it'll get used.

I like ugly colors but can't speak out too much against white as they look better as they age and also when stark white can accent with hardware and knobs and pickups and junk. A White guitar, imo can look junkier and more salvaged-looking with less effort.

Never tried a P. I intend to at some point but I wonder if Humbukers would be smarter.

Anyway, Congratulations on the win!

If I had to have one bass that wasn't a VI, I'd go with a P/J with a Jazz neck most likely. But I'm a single coil guy - the only guitar with buckers I've liked in a LONG time (and the only one) is my Jaguar HH - and that probably because of the coil blend.

I like a good jazzbox-type bucker as the next guy but it's such a one-trick pony sound.

Doesn't mean I'm not desperately considering the single pickup no F-hole Gibson 335 studio they have out now.

I put flats on my P DLX and leave them for years... Yours is white with Rosewood fretboard right??? Rosewood or no wood on Ps... Maybe you could just use it to mod or use all A strings or just two strings like P.U.S.A. or find nylon strings and use it with a synth pup...

It's the stereotypical Artic/RW combo. If I go synth pickup on a bass, I'm going VI - but I need a second to do it fulltime to.

:thumb: if you end up really liking it you could always put a different color guard on it like blue or orange :idk:

Nah, I'm going the Sid treatment if I keep it.

Black P/G, and throw some really offensive sticker or three on it.
