Subjectivity.....
oscillating fuzzes - PTD Tornita!
Buzzaround clones - Jext Telez Dizzytone
Scrambler/Blender clones - Creepy Fingers Pink Elephant
For cool textures I have liked Warmjet V, Fuzzfight (fuzz-rite),Polygrace, etc.
Also don't forget fuzz placement and stacking can sometimes have dramatic effect. Using an EQ (before or after fuzz) adds new sonic choices...

Definitely true, that's a good portion of why I mentioned the HM-2, Harmonic Percolator and Driving Notion.
Anyway, what type sounds are you going for or is it more a whatever is possible kinda thing?

I chased the high gain dragon when I was younger (and if I could get a couple of the amazing high gain sounds I get now I'd still be down that rabbit hole!) - one thing I can tell you is that they are radically different stacked with various fuzzes like you have.
I have both a HM-2 on steroids (the period rackmount "every boss analog gain thing in a 1U package" GL-100) and a Basic Audio Lucky number sandwiched in with a ton of other octave up and down fuzzes (including a few on your list) and they're glorious with the right octave stuff. They really are.
I don't have over a dozen dirtboxes and fuzzes on my master board because I like crappy LEDs and footswitches!

Mutantes. Someone just made a demo of a really cool version (basic audio, I think).

Germanium Treble Booster like the Yellow Sunshine, Keeley Java Boost, Diamond Marquis, etc...
Also, I pimp the Ramble FX Twin Bender every chance I get. Pedal kicks all kinds of ass. It's like having 4 awesome germanium fuzzes in one box, a Tone Bender Mk I.V and Mk II Pro, and either of those with all the lows the Bender circuit's input cap usually cuts out let back in via the "Fat" switch. It's like a coarser germanium Fuzz Face on the Mk I.V setting, and the Mk II setting sounds super thick and almost amp like with the Fat switch on, but still retains some of that gnarly ge fuzz edge.
And if you went with a EQ/Filter + Fuzz or OD like the Maestro PDF-1, or Lone Wolf Audio Outsider you can use them to essentially double your amount of tones, because they stack so well with other pedals pre or post gain/fuzz and as either straight up filter/eq + clean boosts or add their own built in clipping.

If you are into textures, pick up an unpleasant surprise. It is awesome on its own and stacks really well.

What kind of tone are you after? I don't want to recommend something you might hate.

Golly, that's fucking incredible.goroth wrote:If you are into textures, pick up an unpleasant surprise. It is awesome on its own and stacks really well.
I don't need another fuzz though, and both my Twin Bender and Sun Face have bias controls, so I can do plenty of gated sputtering stuff.

It's awesome! It can get fat and brutal, or like a gated medium gain od, or exploding Velcro shitstorm or compressed on itself blooming explosions... And then you stack it into an overdrive or something and all these hints of octave jump out, or boost the crap out of one of the spluttery gated settings to defeat the gating and get crackles on top of whatever you've stacked it into.
Super simple interface but lots of easily accessible sounds.

Re: a what fuzz to get next thread but for me this time
Ok I squeezed in some Youtube clip listening time and didn't get to ALL these awesome suggestions (thank you so much!) but got some new impressions. That Devi OK Fuzz really stood out to me, it sounds so unnatural and unpredictable. The Buzzaround stuff sounds really cool, I think I can cover some of that territory with the Crazy Horse in its more trebly settings but I'm not writing it off yet. The oscillating fuzz stuff is turnt up as fvck of course but I think not really what I'm looking for at this time. I still need to check out the Unpleasant Surprise, Driving Notion, and a couple other things that have been offered but based on the descriptions I'm looking forward to hearing what they can do.
It's funny the HM-2 has been mentioned, I used to use one to boost an old Peavey Butcher for a 2 man thrash band! I liked what it did to an already saturated amp, but I eventually sold it because I thought it was too scooped, the gain knob was pretty much all or nothing, and the treble frequencies were very smeared, something I wasn't really going for back then. At the time though I had zero fuzz pedals so never got a chance to try stacking it with stuff.
These days I love stacking fuzz pedals with each other, but I didn't consider getting more normal distortions and stacking that with fuzz. That opens up a whole world of stuff to look into.
As Tristan put it, I'm looking for what's possible. I've been using the same tones for a while now and just want to shake it up a bit.
