Guitar p'ups in basses

I thought that the toaster pickups on rickenbacker basses are "technically" for guitars since they have 6 poles. Not exactly a humbucker though

Yup, its the same pickup underneath the toaster. Funny thing is that when Ric made 5 string basses (briefly), they didn't change the pickups at all, and as as result the outside strings had virtually no coverage thus no volume. Cheap stubborn bastards.
