I'm actually wanting to get a new Jazzmaster/Jag, my MIJ Jazzmaster is a bit crap, truth be told, and I'm looking at the CP stuff. I tried the CP jag with 2 humbuckers over the weekend, and I liked it a lot.

I got my classic player jazzmaster for about $600 and at that price i think it was definitely worth it. the standard stock pickups in the CPs are pretty hot and while they didn't sound horrible, it definitely wasn't what i wanted from a jazzy. Also the electronics in the guitar were a mess. So once you put a little TLC into it and drop some new pickups in, it sounds much better. I'm thinking about replacing the bridge with a roller bridge but right now it holds pretty well in most of the alternate tunings i use. If you can't find one cheap though, try waiting a little longer and saving up for making a partsmaster or getting a good AVRI.
sometimes i question if i should've just waited and shelled out more cash for a normal jm with a normal jm trem... but then i remember that i enjoy putting work into a guitar

'67 Vox Starstream, super easy player, plus those effects!!!
'63 Jag, my main toy, always sounds great, I'm taking that baby to the grave with me!!! Also a '68 Yamaha bass - sounds great, just gotta set up the intonation properly one day
Late 60's (?) Japanese ricky copy. Plays sweet, sounds like a 60's Ric copy should - garage goodness here.
late 60's Telestar Bison copy - this has the nicest pups on any Japanese guitar I've played, bar a Spectrum 5. This thing rawrs through any good fuzz, it plays especially nice with the Team Awesome Fuzz machine.

Straight robbed a ng in an even trade for a Vantage Analog Echo Machine, an Ibanez LF-7 and a Nobel's DX-TN!
I wish he had kept the original pickups or at least installed ANYTHING other than those Rockfeild Mafias but at that price, I'm not about to complain.
