Absolute best on board Power system

I've been meaning to upgrade to the Walrus Phoenix -- two OneSpots with 3 daisy chains (all the low current draw pedals on two daisy chains) is not cutting it anymore. But the Cioks chain able stuff is neat -- I'm just not keen on having to buy at least 2 modules to get started for my board.

How many pedals you gotta power?

i have to give t-rex props. I have the chameleon and it powers about 15 pedals at once. One of the 5 ports (after almost 2 years) started to act up and I contacted the company. They ended up sending me a brand new one for free and not asking for the old one back.... so I have a spare now for a smaller board. Great customer service especially since they had to ship it from Denmark.

It's kind of confusing, but you could power nearly anything. If I was going for "the best" I'd get this system.

It's crap, a buddy of mine uses it, for every pedal you need to buy a different converter and even to feed just five or so normal pedals you need like three different things, you have to cut the cables yourself and they're flimsy, sometimes there's even noise or interference for no reason at all, it's not only the most expensive but also the shittiest power supply system on the market today in my opinion.

Anyone used a Cioks Big John? Will it power a pt Jr with like 2-3 high draw pedals on it?

I have. It's quite ok but their pro series stuff is far better. I don't know if the new version is different in terms of power filtering than the older one I had.

I can't say enough good stuff about their fancier stuff but the lower tier stuff wasn't as impressive. I bought mine 2008-9 so long before the redesign, so I can't really comment on the newer models. But the pro shit is unbeatable.

Yep, reread the specs. Don't bother with the normal one, it is poo. The link one is pretty rad, though the first four outlets are only isolated into two groups (and not individually). Still, I'd roll with it.

It's lighter so I guess it could be a good system for people who don't change their board much or for people who have a flyboard they take with them as hand luggage but since not every outlet is isolated and you have to troubleshoot even more cables than usual if something goes wrong because of the modular setup I think it's not something most ILF'ers, me included, would want to deal with.

It sounds like I could potentially power my 15-ish pedals with a Walrus Aetos (8 outputs with 100mA each + 1 300mA output), and likely it'd work pretty well with my setup since I'm using non-isolated OneSpot daisy chains right now, but thinking the Phoenix is the way to go to never have to worry about power again.. Am I being overkill with wanting to get the Phoenix?

Damn, glad this thread was started, been looking for a mondo power supply and the new walrus audio one (http://walrusaudio.com/shop/phoenix-120v/) is fucking perfect for what I want to do. A lot of the huge power supplies that T-rex/Voodoo make just don't make any sense to me.

Also, dumb side question if a pedal can run 9-18v, 12v will work right? Just making sure you can go in between or if it is only 9 OR 18.

12V will be less headroom than 18V for the pedals that go 9-18V (or for modulation effects, it sometimes means less rate than 18V, though that's not always true.)

Any pedal that specifically is 18V (which I haven't really heard of, but I suppose there's some oddball digital pedals out there) might have issues.

mathias beat me to it. but yea the general rule is that if you go under voltage, you don't risk damaging the pedal, but it may not have enough juice to power.

so in theory if your pedal can run on 9v -18v, 12v should be okay.

i'm not an expert, this is just what i've picked up on here and various places on the internet.
