Decibill wrote:The only "big" issue is that the string spacing will be out of whack with the pole piece spacing on the pickup. The volume going from one string to the next may jump a bit. But if the pole pieces are adjustable you might be able to compensate. Don't we need to finish your current bass project first or is this one and the same...?!!!
Ha! No worries, man - I was thinking that this would be for The Battering Ram, but only if it made sense. I should have known that Mudfuzz would have tried it before. If he came back and was all "dudez it sounds awesome like nothing else you should do it RIGHT NAO!" I probably would have looked first into lipsticks or rails anyways... but it's a non-issue... for the moment...

Throbbing Gristle did this too. I wouldn't think that would help at all.

Zakk Wylde?

Well, ok, probably not... but if they did it up in diamond plate, with an obnoxious paint job...

I thought that the toaster pickups on rickenbacker basses are "technically" for guitars since they have 6 poles. Not exactly a humbucker though

what if you took 2 guitar pups and turned them so the 6 pole pieces went with each string? then mounted them staggered?

no idea if the spacing is even close

If anyone here has tried it, Achtane or Mudfuzz have.

Of course, now I want to.

Next project bass, though...

Yeah, it works, it just looks kinda wonky

On my 4-string guitar the spacing is all messed up, but it doesn't seem to make a huge difference. I think it's dependent upon the individual pickup.
Actually I removed five pieces from the neck pickup and one from the bridge and it just made them sound a bit duller to me. I was trying to remove the signal from certain strings entirely and later ended up snapping the bar magnets underneath the pickups in specific spots to accomplish that. It worked.
Disclaimer: they're Synsonics junk so probably none of this applies to any pickups you're looking at :idk:
