That was a bit harsh, but yes, he is most likely a solo operator making pedals in his spare time.

I guess my main issue was when trying to get some more info from seppuku himself, he never replied to my emails, and I'm not going to waste my time with a builder that can't spare a few minutes to answer a few questions.

The second issue I have is the way the pedal is advertised. I don't see jhs, keeley, alchemy, etc trying to pull the wool over potential buyers eyes with modded versions of already exsisting pedals, and they sure don't sell these pedals at a massive mark up.

Would you still pay $250 for a pedal labeled "seppuku's circuit bent nux time core". I doubt it. I see some of this shit over on reverb, and see ilfer's posting here, bashing the seller for trying to sell their own circuit bent crafted in china shit pedal. Either seppukus shit must not stink, or we are all just a bunch of hypocrites. Either way I'm going to deal with the builders that want to deal with me.

I don't think he hides that it is a circuit bent delay at all. I think it was called that for a while. Or one of the images on his site is called that. Hovercraft is doing exactly what you are saying but advertising it on kickstarter and with absolutely no mention of it being a jet city distortion pedal. I think some of the other ones i've seen posted were kind of funny (like finger paint).

FWIW we have a big thread where many posters expressed mixed feelings about Hovercraft.

  afaik everyone who's ordered direct from Rhys has gotten their pedals, I know I did but it took long enough. I'd be willing to wait again, it's just part of dealing with him.

I don't think his post was harsh in the least. In fact it's nicer than what I've heard in the past about Seppuku. I'm sure what's going on and why you folks are suddenly interested in this brand, but he's ALWAYS been like this. Since I've been a member here at least. I'd wager that may be a reason he wasn't on the Fuzzhugger site anymore. In fact, Tom mentioned something at one point, but God that was years ago and I have a bad memory.

Anyway, search the site. There are numerous complaints of lack of communication. It's not professional.

Sometimes I miss emails, and when I do, I feel really fucking bad about. I'll respond to them with apologies and hope that I can rectify the wait, even if it was just an inquiry and they don't buy from me. I want that relationship with every customer. It's a good way to operate. It makes us both happy.

I'm not saying his stuff isn't good, but that there is something fundamentally wrong with his business and the way it operates. It's really kind of sad. There a metric fuck ton of builders that are the exact same way. That's why I've narrowed it down to who I'll work with and who I won't. Tired of chasing the magic rainbow. haha

I'm glad people dig what they are getting though. It's all about fun and making music. For me though, I'm going to just say it. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I was just refering to that recent pedal. I know there are a ton of complaints prior (about the amps), but maybe people were just tired of complaining about Hovercraft by the time that kickstarter started :idk: . It just didn't seem to have sparked this kind of reaction. But everybody can do what they want, and I am not defending Seppuku/Rhys or anyone, I just find that some of the questions of business/hobbyist/design/integrity/quality that have arisen somewhat interesting. It's all opinion and taste anyway.

Yea, and what jwar said.

It's, like, all relative to your, like, perception and experience, man. Which is what I should have said first. Thanks jwar.

There's stuff in that amps thread about the pedal, too.

But, as always, we're never in agreement about everything (some people buy from Prymaxe, some people don't. Some people love Big Muffs, some people are deaf and don't. Etc.). I thought the Mind Warp was pretty interesting five years ago or so, but I could never find one for sale when I had cash so it was a non-issue.

Shit, I really liked seppuku before, even with the funky site and waiting times. But this is not cool at all
