If you want a good versitile pedal that does nice overdrive all the way to nasty octave clitchy fuzz, then go for a Fuzzhugger Arc Flash. Loves pedals stacked into it, loves pedals stacked after it as well. Great build quality, won't break the bank either.

My dick will break the bank.
Speaking of affordable.
Check out the God Hates Fuzz. hahahaha I already mentioned it. I'm a whore.
Others I like for no reason
TAFM, Frazz Dazzler, Algal Bloom, Hoof Reaper, Fuzz Master General, Dr. Freakenstein and all the other fuzzes.
They are fuzz damn it!

68 SF Twin Reverb. I like the clean platform thing so I can do dirt sandwiches and go from clean->dirt whenever I want without rolling back knobs.backwardsvoyager wrote:What kind of amp are you using?
And no, I'm not unhappy with my stuff, nor I want to change them anytime soon either, I just want to try those "different" things and see what all the fuzz is about
Thanks to everyone who replied, will read everything.

Can't recommend fuzzhugger enough. Every one I've tried is unique and brilliant.
Algal Bloom is the most open sounding fuzz I've ever heard, sounds huge on big complex chords rather than turning to mush.
Arc Flash is an overdrive, fuzz and distortion and sounds good at all of them! if you want a Swiss army knife type dirt look no further.
I just recently got a suneater, and it's my new favourite for turning on and rocking out. Simple, sounds really great.

I'm glad to see some Suneater love around... My friend in town got one last year and loves it and he plays completely different stuff then I do with it... It's good for Countrygaze or Industrimetal...monkeydancer wrote:Can't recommend fuzzhugger enough. Every one I've tried is unique and brilliant. Simple, sounds really great.

True. With the gain maxed and the more open clipping it gets a brutal industrial tone.

Re: Sell me on ILF-approved dirt boxes
Some great posts here. Lordgalvar basically nailed it on alot of the stuff I love and use (though he misspells my name
).
So yeah, oscillating fuzz can be a love it or hate it kind of thing. All of my fuzz oscillates because it covers a lot of ground for me. Suboctaves, pseudo tremolo, arpeggiator and good ol' fuzz. It takes time to learn how to control them; I would say something like the AB-Synth is a great choice, as the noise is footswitchable, and the level of control is outstanding. Really, this goes for everything Tom makes, Fuzzhugger is quality through and through.
The LAL 88 is my be all end all pedal. It's what I use for 70% of my recorded sounds, and it never disappoints. It covers alot of territory between overdrive, fuzz and craziness. However, I would'nt get it if you're not into noise rock or experimental music - it commands a certain will to explore.
Then there's brands like Dwarfcraft. Never bonded with my TGD, I think it might be better suited for industrial or something? Tons of sounds in it though, the main fuzz tone is just a bit... bleak? Love my She Fuzz on the other hand, so nasty and cutting.
Oh, and the MASFs! Will probably demo them sometime next week, but they do stick out from the wealth of fuzz on the market. Weird beasts.
Oscillating fuzz are weird, glitchy and hard to control. It takes time to learn how to use them to their full extent, but when you do it's totally worth it. Again, if you play Zeppelin-covers or teh blooz, it might not be your thing. You do get sounds you don't get with other fuzz pedals though. Some will be better at some things (say suboctaves or arpeggios) while others will better at others (interactivity with your guitar knobs).
Yeah. Hope that was of some help, and not just me going off on a tangent.

I really need new glasses (haven't gotten new ones in 3 years because of pedals and stuff and they are scratched/melted because I wear them when pouring concrete or soldering copper) and to not type this stuff on my phone...or at least zoom first.
Fuck, I suck sometimes...sorry, bud.
Oh, Eivind, find an 87!

Hey, no problem, you can call me anything you want. Half the times I'm mentioned on here, it's Elvind. It's really nothing I take that seriously, it's just a signifier. I guess starting a name with two vowels seems weird in English or something? Fun fact: It's more or less pronounced like Ivan.
Either way, still love ya.
And sooner or later Imma get me one of 'em 87 dealiebobs.
Either way, still love ya.

That makes sense. My parents ought to have named me Elfwind instead.

Re: Sell me on ILF-approved dirt boxes
I think it is a bit of that (the dual vowels), the fact very few people use computers anymore, and the print on phones/tablets is tiny. The "E" and the dot on the "i" run together when zoomed out and with blurry vision it looks like an "l" whereas the "i" next to the "v" is taller making it easier to see the break. The "l" and "i" are also close on the qwerty keyboard and it may feel natural to type "l" for some traditional typers (that actually used the raised bumb on "f" and "j"). It is was easier to see in black font, though, but this is also the reason that college professors don't allow sans-serif fonts and prefer "times new roman". Also, I don't know about other countries, but getting glasses in the US is a stupid, expensive annoying sales pitch (even with insurance...you can have this ugly pair with your plan, add on "scans" and stuff) and vision is also an "added" expense. 400 on glasses per year or 2 extra fuzzes? I made my choice (and I think most of us just choose 65" TVs instead of a 40" TV and glasses). I'm also avoiding the inevitable doctor visits trying to explain why I have Bowie eyes now...Eivind August wrote:Hey, no problem, you can call me anything you want. But, the better question is why didn't UC correct me??
Again, man, I feel stupid. haha.
