As with anything effects wise, it's all about picking the right time and right amount to use it.

I use the Ct5 at the beginning and end of the this song. Mostly because I like how it filled in the space around whatever the fuck I was playing.

I use the Binson mode of a Multiplex 1776 here in the middle part because I really like what it added. I wish I was better at describing things other than "fuck it, sounded cool."

yep

so i like delay well used for one thing... but in general... interestingly filtered and modulated. Tape/DMM sort of thing.

That bass sounds great. Just listened to the whole remastered album on Spotify, twice through - I can't believe I haven't heard of these dudes.

Totes.

A delay with trails can help with this too. That way you can delay only certain notes, go back into
bypass and let the percussive smoosh of those delayed notes smear and recede in the background.

Other-hand-wise, switch up the tempo of your bass plonks while the delay is churning and gurning.
Instead of smacking the bass to a lock-step beat like dut-dut-dut-dut, just hit it once
and then let the delay fill in the other three dut-dut-duts.

Or...? Get a delay with a tone knob so that you can swerve your delayed notes way the fuck over
out of the sonic register where your clean bass notes have made their home and renovated the kitchen
and installed a "Man-Cave" and other homey conveniences that make life worth living.

That particular album is an old favorite. The other skinyard albums aren't as good imo, but they all have their charms. I actually used to work at Pike Place Market with the singer, Ben. And of course the legendary producer Jack Endino is the guitar player so you know it is worth a listen just as a piece of Seattle history. Love the odd time signature on Slow Runner especially. Sorry for the derail. Gonna go have a listen to the whole album right now myself.

A million times this. I find delay on bass hard to use in a band too, but doing it like this can sound a lot less muddy and indistinct.

I am seldom a bass player, but I find delay on bass really cool, probably more than I do on guitar when I'm playing with people. I just use it to hardly play anything but sound impressive, just like wallop down some main notes and let them cascade around. I know this isn't super helpful, but it seems I just really have to give every single note some time to do it's thing, whereas guitar can stack stuff up a little more.
