sequencer, beat box, tools... need suggestions

I’d like to have something to practice with… something where I can create beat and maybe a bass or synth line in a loop.
I have Reason on my computer, but I would prefer a small and portable non computer device that dont need amplification.
It’s just for beedroom level practice. Any suggestions?

Volcas, teenage engineering pocket things (though they seem to be taking forever to get...my friend hasn't gotten his), KORG M01 or DS10 for nintendo DS. If you can find an MPC1000 dirt cheap that would be awesome. All those old roland digital beat boxes are ok.

A lot of the late 90's/2000's drum machines can do limited bass/synth patterns as well as drums. Akai xr-20, Alesis sr-18, a lot of the newer Boss DR and Zoom machines, might have to google a manual for whichever particular unit to see if it'll do everything you want but lots of these go for $50-100 on CL or eBay.

I haven't tried anything other than the Volca series, but they are very intuitive, cheap and great sounding. I bring my Beats with me on the subway. So much fun.

I always forget about those boss and zoom ones. They are alright for goofing around.

The Zoom drum machines let you program bass lines. You can change parts (like part a and part b, back and forth) with a foot switch too.

I am pretty sure my old Kawai stuff (q80 and a drum machine could) but I am not exactly sure. Let me bust out the drum machine in the near future. However, you could just do the math in your head kinda.

Korg has some new Electribes coming out but you should check out the new Koasillator which can do simple beats and bass and is as big as a phone... Screw "my iPhone is for work" and get the IKaoss app which lets you play beats and bass for practice... I wouldn't spend too much on something until you know what you really want... Most MultiFx things have beats and bass to play with, I had a Deltalab one that was cheap and cool and had decent fx with beats and bass... There are also lots of old guitar headphone amp things that let you play to a beat for practice... Down get on that slippery slope of Synth gas if all you want is a practice tool...

I've been using an IRig Pro to play through my phone and it's fuckin titzzz...
