Not sure I get the point in this when there are good synths for much cheaper. The hex pickup stuff I get because the amount of stuff you can do is nuts, but this looks like a step down from a decent synth to me... :idk:

It's for the people who are afraid of 13 pin cables and pickups - but those same guys are usually so conservative in gear that they won't do something that has a LCD-editor screen that size and presets anyway.

there are a couple of things this does that might be very useful.
1. USB out for recording, ok that is pretty standard but you can play with effects on and send the dry signal to the DAW then reamp through the box and back to another track.
2. Seven string. If you are thinking of synth effects using a seven string then here is the way... or how about kalimba or say saxophone or even voice.

btw over at VGforum they are getting together a group buy which means it will be cheaper.

It don't think this is as limited in the conversion as you think rfurtkamp. I saw some demos where the guy is definitely hitting chords and the latency seems really low. It is definitely more limited than the GR-55 in regards to parameters of effects and effects routings. Supposedly this has a bass mode (like the GR-55).

I wouldn't care if it is limited somewhat in the effects dept. In one demo the guy is taking about setting the exp pedal to pulse width modulation, that is a good sign. There is some good pitch shifting in there it sounds like. The one thing that sounds kind of crappy to me is the filter.

I wouldn't mind having this to plug my bass into and then run it through more pedals or my modular...

Low (no?) latency on the bass:

I mean it sounds good for an 80's style shit bass player. LOL. I fucking hated the sounds dude. I could see it being a fun toy, but for 700 bucks?? Ummm no thanks.

yeah 700 buckies is a tall order. It might price me out of the new market. $400 has been my imaginary line in the sand for the in development Panda Future Impact.

Although this video just shows presets so I would hope that with 3 oscillators you could whip up something tastier.

I believe Roland/Boss have a knack for shitty presets...

I am sure that this is capable of way better sounds than in the videos. What is most impressive and important is low /no latency.

$700 is steep though...

does it track slides or does it 'quantitize' the slides to the nearest semitone?

It looks like it tracks bends very well and naturally, I would guess that it does slides well.

Did anyone pick up one of these? Would love to hear some opinions and non 80s throwback sounds!

I gave one a spin. I think if you are looking for a crazy deep and strange effects box it is just the ticket. Unfortunately it is marketed as a synth. The oscillator tones themselves all have an odd character, saw doesn't sound quite like saw, sine isn't sine, triangle isn't triangle. Due to the way it generates the oscillators the timbre of the oscillators is influenced by the source input.

Also the note attack tracks flawlessly but the envelope or tail has some overhang. If you want to play staccato parts it will drive you a little nuts.

I think if you want very different sounding ambient tones then it is a great unit.
