4MS Dual Looping Delay?

Post by Seance »

So has anybody seen this?

It was designed by Gary Hall, the guy who designed the Lexicon PCM42

Thoughts? Reactions?

I wish they had a price set, really curious. This seems really awesome.

Just like life itself.

Seems like it allows for lots of points of interaction and control (voltage).
I too am curious about price.

Definitely a drool worthy combo and I'm watching. But jebus, what'll that end up costing? Maybe more than a used PCM42?

If you want CV control of Lexicon-type effects right now, find an old LXP-15II, hopefully without a bum encoder so you don't need to dive too deep into MIDI to get up and running. Thing has 5 inputs for switches or expression or CV that can be assigned to a bunch of parameters in a patch. As I get more CV-capable gear, I'm realizing that I need to get serious about step sequencers and lfos and stuff to control the Lexicon and everything else.

Probably less than an old EHX 16 second digital delay, which is what I would try to use it like. Sort of. Because of the long delay time available and continuous recording & playing, with a switch for infinite repeats. The main thing missing would be the reverse functionality.

I wouldn't be too surprised if reverse was accessible by mod. I think Hall also designed the various and sundry looping and reverse mods that Torn and Frissel and others got for the PCM-42. (And I gather that the 16 second delay borrowed from the modded 42 architecture, but with worse sound.) What hidden secrets do you suppose could be hiding under that panel? I'm hoping for some big Easter eggs in there for opening up some crazy sounds.

Yep. Could be a really cool way to put together some Eurorack modules in a guitar-centric setting.

Curious what the cost of this DLD will be. The price of a Lexicon PCM42 might be less. Maybe. But
expanding the memory for the PCM42 is difficult and getting near impossible. So... new gear does
have some advantages over old gear when it comes to support and sometimes repair.

Sound quality? Functionality? That will all come out in the wash after it's released and used and reviewed.

I saw $345 on TGP or MW (maybe both?). Excellent point about the ridonkulous amount of memory stock. And Gary is responding at the MW thread and saying there might be some pre-release tweaks to a few user requests, and likely firmware updates post release. This is very promising, especially compared to a vintage product with limited support.

Fuck. I have been trying to avoid getting into modular. Patch Box is mono only, right? Because I'm wondering if I would be pissed off if I couldn't use it at the end of my stereo effects chain.
