Just discovered this a few days ago, really dig it.

I also like Burzum, so I can't really comment on the iffy name.

Naming your band after a word from Lord of the Rings is hardly the same thing.

very well done but a bit too derivative and pedantic for me. i've been through postpunk firsthand and it was fresh and exciting in 1978. i think i'd just as soon put on a comsat angels or killing joke record.

Sure, but that's got dick all to do with the band name. Similarly to how (and I always seem to use this example, but it's perfect) Gary Glitter's got a thing for little kids but Rock and Roll Part II is still a stone cold classic. Art and artist typically have little to do with each other.

Just read a decent blurb about em. Gonna check it out that way I'll have a more relative and useful post for this thread.

welp, I was really disappointed :(

The drummer had a broken hand which took away so much to begin with. And they were tight for the first three songs but got progressively sloppier throughout. And they tried to jam a bit and feel some stuff out on the fly, but it didnt translate well at all. Only played for like an hour too.

I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt due to the drummer's injury (and because I love the record), but iunno man. Came all the way to Canada...

at least it was free :idk:

Damn dude. They were really tight for their KEXP session so hopefully it was his hand. They're playing Shaky Knees in Atlanta next month, but I don't know if I can afford to go all three days. They're playing the second day with Metz and Interpol and a couple others, but I might just go the first day for Brand New and DFA 1979 and a few others.

Might have been the broken hand holding them back.

Or partially it might have been Toronto itself. I used to live there. I've seen lots of shows there and I feel like, in general,
the crowds there are really blah. Which can really sap the energy from any performer/performance. Like people take the
time to buy tickets and show up and then act like they're not "into" the thing that they've taken the time to go see.

A lot of Toronto audiences are like a forest of sticks in the mud. Hard to tell if they're unimpressed or just repressed. I guess
it gets hard to muster anything approaching enthusiasm since they're muffled down with so much beard and lumberjackass attire.
And a lot of Torontonians seem to adhere to the false premise that being a prick is "being cool".

So those are my off-topic sweeping generalizations for the day.

Hole in your theory: the crowd loved it and had a push pit going throughout. Maybe im becoming an elitist

Well that's good to hear as far as the crowd. Maybe there's hope for Toronto audiences after all? :idk:

As for being "elitist", maybe it was that you were judging the experience based on having driven all the way to Toronto?
Might have been part of it.

The other thing is sometimes something that on paper might appeal doesn't appeal in reality.
And sometimes bands have off nights.

But luckily there's plenty of other things to listen to out there.
