Do I have artisanal farm to table tubes?

Post by friendship »

I haven't changed the EL84s in my amp for a couple years. They sounded fine, but there's been some tube rattle so I bought new ones. I pulled them out and they're Teslas? I literally have not bothered to check the tubes in my amp until now. Is this is a decent tube? They still function so I figure I could keep them as backups.

I don't think farm to table products generally contain toxic substances. :D

No. The only "farm-to-table tubes" possible are fallopian tubes.
But I wouldn't advise putting those in your amp.

Well played sir.

I suppose the one advantage is that those sorts of tubes sound organic.

Also teslas are fine, in my opinion
Given they're 84s though I'd say they're more than likely toast. Those little guys get hammered pretty hard.
What'd you replace them with?

You guys don't know about the free range pentode farms? I put some Electro Harmonix in it. Sounds pretty refreshed.

Nice. I hear those are pretty much the pick of the new production 84s.

I think the Tesla's are probably decent tubes.

Not as desirable as British or American tubes, but decent nonetheless. Still not sure I'd call 'em "artisanal" though.
