Rehousing a Line6 ToneCore dock + module

Post by jrmy »

Sooooo.... over in the show us your pedalboard thread, Faldoe just revealed a thing that I had never thought of doing before: rehousing an old Line6 pedal (the Echo Park):

viewtopic.php?f=149&t=393&p=931783#p931613

Now, this is of interest to me because I have an old Red Panda Bitmap module, and the Line6 stereo docking pedal. It's a great noisemaking beast, but there have always been problems that have kept it to a desktop, recording-only sort of use, specifically:

A) No master volume
B) No master tone control
C) The horrible Line6 docking pedal design (super heavy, wonky footswitch that's hard to click down)

In a perfect world, I would love to rehouse the whole shebang into a more "traditional" (to ILF, anyhow) form factor. One of the bigger challenges, I think, would be that the horrible Line6 footswitch also triggers different modes on the module - three of them, I think. So maybe this hypothetical rehouse would need three footswitches? Or four? One to engage, the others to switch modes?

Anyhow, this is mostly thinking out loud at the moment, but have any of you DIYers tried this? Do you know any builders who might tackle such a bizarre project? Is it all that bizarre to begin with?

Make Sounds Loudly would probably give it a go. He seems to be down for difficult rehouses and they look awesome as shit. Not sure about doing it yourself. Seems like a huge fucking pain.

Oh, I would definitely not do it myself - I'm a danger to life and limb with a soldering iron. I was just wondering if any of the DIYers here had tried, or might be up to the challenge. Thanks for the tip regarding MSL!

So nobody else besides MSLP? Not a problem, just trying to get a sense of the range of folks available for such an undertaking...
