It does the ice thing only much much better, the Timeline was pretty meh to me to be honest, it just doesn't sound that cool / special and it's not very tweakable either.
I love the Timeline, but the Ice mode is pretty meh. GB24 will give you the pitch shiftaroos and if you run that into a decent verb you can also get the whole blooming/shoegaze shenanigans. For some reason I prefer the GB24 over the Ct5. GB is very noisy, but there's something about it that worked with me much more than the Ct5.

And yeah I should have been more specific as the Ice mode does over a lot of ground.
