Jerms Fuzzstainer demo
Just got the Fuzzstainer in and within five minutes of mucking around I started playing this progression so I figured I'd fire up Garageband, pick a drummer (Aiden, I think) and do a quick and dirty demo.
Three guitar parts played on the Metal Klangfucker (Harvester aluminium hybrid guitar - the little metal "squeaks" sound awesome with fuzz) into the Fuzzstainer into a Vibro Champ, recorded into Garageband. As you may be able to tell, I like me some gated fuzz vibes.

sounds good, man! I keep hoping to find the right Jerms build. Did you try the Wright Sounds Fuzzstainer?

Re: Jerms Fuzzstainer demo
^ Haven't tried the Wright Sounds one but have been after one of Jim's since he made the first batch of clones from Ed Koppel's original three years or so back. Timing was never right but when this one popped up I grabbed it (and it ended up cheaper than a Wright Sounds would have been, too). I know John at Basic Audio also makes a killer version (Chank has one of these) that has the same four-knob layout as the jerms pedal.
Really, really like the character of this thing. You can dial the gating in and out, as I mentioned, but the tone control is interesting, too - kind of parametric but also with a noticeable boost at either end of the control (bass counter, treble clockwise). Cleans up well, too, and sounds really nice with open chords.

alright, now another Jerms pedal I need to be on the lookout for… this, and a mkI [though that 180 biased pig dog mkI on D*A*M forums is damn tempting…]

Thanks dude. That demo was awesome. Nice textured tones in that Fuzzstainer. Where can I get one?

Re: Jerms Fuzzstainer demo
^ They don't pop up often secondhand but Jim (jerms) still makes small batches from time to time. The other options are Basic Audio and the Wright Sounds Fuzz-Stang.
Cool blog posts about the history of the Fuzz-Stainer from Ed Koppel (who found the original pedal that Jim cloned and traced the schematic from) and Tym here:

Re: Jerms Fuzzstainer demo
There is a vero layout for one of these on Tagboard FX using modern components and easy to get hold of 2n5088 transistors. Anyone here built this? If so how does it sound?
